Nice work Joe. The graphs make them look a lot further apart than the actual numbers are(except for the Echo). I'm sure you'll update down the road with the ones that are sticking around. If I can get my ass to the bench I'll have something to put on the new setup next year when you return. It looks slick. Thanks again for sharing.

I’m a bit curious as to why the 500i didn’t spool up higher.
11,400 is peanuts.
Need to move those curves to the right a bar or two.

Just the way it was running. Still cleaned up nice. I'm sure with some more time it will be up around 13k. That "dropoff" it is 4 stroking, while it looks bad on the graph, set the spikes and clean it up...

Something you wouldn't notice much cutting wood.

The whole point of this was to test "out of the box" new saws.

Don't know where I could find a fully broken in New saw lol.

Lol not even kidding...

Husky must of sucked some juice while sitting on the plasma table...

Lol

I was informed the 6400 muffler I used was the heavy cat muffler. No I'm not gutting it and retesting!!!

Nothing wrong with any of these saws.

The top 4 saws are only separated by about 10% peak power.

Actually seeing the cured on the graph is nice, but the change is not as drastic as it looks.

What would be funny is if the bottom 2 stock saws turn into the top 2 ported saws....

So a 7900 made 6.47 hp exhaling through a straw with a hot cat inside of it. That’s actually pretty impressive and respectable if you ask me. Especially if you consider that it is rated at 6.3hp stock with the less restrictive original equipment galvanized muffler.

Thanks for taking a day out of your life to do this testing. I’m sure the discussion will go on for pages and pages. I like data. I’m sure they all suck once you cut through a fence staple in that big old log you’re bucking!

They all have stock mufflers, I’m sure they would all gain from a MM.

The saw I have been waiting for for over a year.

Stopped building my hybrids over....

Dead last...

Like not even in the ball park.

45 in the passing lane, last...

Yes it may line up with some cuts, may not line up with others.

5 fresh saws
Same day
Same fuel
Same dyno
Same operator

Change the numbers to 30hp for the top one. The difference is still the same.

In the end the actual hp numbers don't mean anything.

Just the difference between the saws is what the dyno is great at showing.

4/5 saws are my personal saws. No special treatment for them lol

I'll leave the in the wood results up to you fellas. I really don't like working on dirty saws lol

I'd like to continue this thread with STOCK saws and videos. Feel free to share and compare.

Would be nice to keep it to the 5 models in the graphs.

Likes/dislikes
Problems etc.

Have fun.

Stock echos never were very impressive. I’m sure it’ll wake up with porting. May take a bit to navigate that crazy jug though, lol

That’s not the stock muffler on a 7900. The stainless cat muffler is stock on a late 6400 and 6421.

The 6400/7900 is a tough one to classify.

I'm thinking it is a better (stronger) example than the new Makita 7900

Being the 6400 has the better coil, non Hd filter (not sure if hd is stock on any)

Not sure if the cat muffler would be better than the new slr muffler and jug or not?

All saws less than three tanks? Put another tank thru the echo run that *b-word again.

Oh.... You actually think I cut wood?

Lol

Ain't got time for that.

That is why I won't comment on how a saw handles or feels. They all feel the same bolted to the bench...

Plus who wants to work on dirty saws?

I'll prolly put some time on the dolmar since it is already dirty lol
I've got an extra gutted 7900/10 muffler you can bolt on that dolmar... do the saw a favor and don't run it hot with that cat muffler on it.
