The manufacturers just need to do a better job building the bearings. Shouldn't be that difficult to build stronger. Trying to get the manufacturer to do it will be the stumbling block.

Loggers were having this same problem around here 20 years ago till the 660 replaced it ,then the cases did not get beat out anymore .

Are they running round chain with low rakes ? that alone will kill bottom end bearings .404 should be square to cut smooth and have tall rakes like .020-.025 max ,i do not touch them either till about half the cutter is gone .

404 on a 064 or 066 at 10:1 is bearing death.

These guys run lucas at 32:1 and it's not beating the bearing out, most of the time I reuse the bearing and seal,it's beating the case out. Oil won't help that.
@Jacobj knows about this i believe ,think it was a common thing on metal flywheel saws .

I know there bad for it these are what I work on. I also have cut alot of timber and it's very easy to see which chain is harder on the saw.

I've tried getting them to change to 660's but they don't want to.

How do your older top ends run on the 660 bottoms ? Is there really that much difference with the early case ?

Whats the difference in a poly flywheel case and a aluminum flywheel case on the pto side?
I think the 660 has a wider bearing ,someone that builds more may correct me though .The cranks do snap off the 660's though on the sprocket side ,i broke one milling once ,and faller next door broke one cutting timber in same spot .

They have the same bearing and the case is the same accept the length.
Flywheel side is different
