I've got a '99 2500 gas version like the one above in Black. Overall it's been a OK truck. I'm needing to replace a bit of body and support metal. All cab supports are required and needed, I have a replacement passenger side fender ready to mount, both sides rocker panels inner and out need replacing as well. Front doors need sheet metal as well. I'll get a picture added soon.

88k miles needs some body TLC to be a frequent driver, and some electrical gremlins besides the nornal grounding issues fixed. Motor runs good now. Motor had a issue with heads cracking from coolant jacket to intake valves, replaced with Mopar Alum heads , only heads available at the time, happened when using it like a HD truck. Transmission had the factory recall and updates done, then had a Transgo kit added ( back in 2004). Added a cam, bored TB, Elderbrock headers and retuned with the aid of a Split Second controller.

My '95 has leaves and a '79 Ford 60 in the front.

My '11 very best mpg straight and flat going slow was 18mpg. Beating on it several hours going up to @Woodslasher's it got 16-17, so I don't try any more. Around town and trailers, 10 mpg is good. Should have just gotten a gasser.

For all you early 2nd gen owners, I've got a question. My late 98 DOES NOT have a blend door motor (I wasted 3 hours before finding that out) but the ac only blows out the defrost vents. The switch still turns the ac on and off, but it does not change where it comes out from. Before I try ripping the entire dash out, does anyone here have any similar experiences or suggestions?

Yes Sir. It is the contol knob most likely. Take the dash bezel off and then remove the knob assembly. On the back of the assembly, all of the vacuum lines plug into it. My guess is that one of nipples on the switch assembly is broken. The default position when a vacuum leak occurs is defrost.

^ that’s certainly worth checking out. I was gonna suggest a vacuum line. One of mine has a vacuum leak. It will switch to the next position but takes forever. Pretty sure it has a leak somewhere. But it ain’t broken so….

Those trucks are bad about vacuum lines. Especially in the desert…

This is the mine that I replaced with a good used one. Look at the last image and you will see one of the nipple missing.

Is the plastic thick enuf to thread in a barbed (or other) fitting type , and maybe add a bit of your favorite epoxy for some extra strength???

It might be, it wouldn't be able to protrude on the other side due to the design of the selector. I called Minton Motors and they had a good used part to me in 3 days. I never tried to make the old one work.

Fun fact, in 2000 Dodge started using a different style of governor pressure switch than the early models used. Another fun fact, the reman tranny in my 98.5 uses the later style fitting but when you tell the reman company your truck is a 98 they'll send you the earlier style. The Dodge has had the "Trans Temp" light on since about a minute after I first started it with the reman, and when I contacted the company (Moveras) they sent me new parts and fluid for free. Unfortunately, the new sensor ain't right. But, I can get a new one through work for $40 so I'll just eat the cost to get it running by tomorrow night. The black guy hanging down is the culprit.

Full Disclaimer, I still think Moveras is a pretty good reman company and I have only had good experiences with them. When I called them about the issues they responded quickly and were very helpful and got new parts in the mail within roughly a week of my initial call.

The vacuum actuator developed a leak in my 96 Dodge 2500. Air would only come out of the defrost vents. I think it was about a $20 part but don't remember. I ran it not switching for years not knowing that it was a simple fix.
