Went to the junkyard today and came home with a complete upper and lower intake, both exhaust manifolds, a perfectly strait and rust free valve cover, fake wood grain interior trim pieces, good EGR tube, and a few smalls to put dual tanks back in this thing too.

All for the grand total of 50 bucks!

For the freeze plugs I find a big socket that fits snug enough to leave less than a 1/16" gap in the plug. Put some rtv on the sealing edge and then drive them just below the machined sealing surface. Got the block mounted in the stand ready for a crankshaft and a cam shaft.

On to the crankshaft. As most garter spring seals do in their life they like to get hard and cut a groove in the sealing surface of the shaft. I could just put a new seal in there and it will be fine for a while or it may not be. So to repair the seal damage I use these readisleeves. It's a super thin band of stainless steel that is pressed onto the shaft and will make a perfect hard surface for the new seal to ride against. I clean the shaft with scotch Brite and then wash the sleeve and the shaft with acetone. Apply loctite 518 from your chainsaw drawer and then use the installer to tap it on the shaft.
