You'll get a few more RPMs out of the hybrid and little more torque out of the 461. I have videos of both in the same wood. I don't want to take over this thread though. That's not my intent.
By all means, take as much of it over as you'd like. I respect your opinion very much.

The way I see it, your around 85 intake and 118 upper roof, 33* of case compression.

I'm at 78/123, 45* case compression.

I'm seeing a case that's too small for the top end, so if increase the intake duration too much, I'm gonna overfill/get alot of spitback-even with flow intertia into case. Maybe youre using that inertia, I dont know.

Thats why I picked 78* for the intake. Its also close to "square" as the ex roof is 101-102*

On the next one I do, I plan on using 3 slugs as testers. One with a notch at the ex, one at the uppers and one at the intake ala @tree monkey did on the 461. That thread is coming.

I'm interested in your theories, I'm a sucker for that stuff. Intrigues me. I'm all ears for anyone wishing to Opine.

Which has a heavier crank and flywheel? The 460 or 440? I’m guessing which one has a heavier crank and flywheel with that case capacity difference you guys mention has to do with torque and rpm differences as well.

Flywheel weight will affect spool up and recovery. Maybe a drop more potential energy when the chain hits the wood, but that’s it.

I did make some of the Case capacity increase by carving the tunnels. Perhaps it could handle a few more degrees of intake.

I'm with Jeff, a ported 460 is a serious saw. (And, we both have MOFO 460s!!!)

I love the light weight of my Hybrid, and it cuts like a SOB, but my ported 460 has more torque, you can lean on it more. When felling, especially when you do the angle cut for the notch, I like torque.

FWIW,

Here’s what’s left in the tank after those runs.

I know I’m not building saws for fuel efficiency, but it did pretty well for the power it made.

In fact, the entire video likely used more F-bombs than fuel, but I’ve got plenty more of those stashed away.

Has anyone actually measured the case capacity on the 12mm 044-440 the 046-460 and the 461. Im very curious if a difference is detectable. You all buuld some very strong saws and id love to own one from any of the builders ive seen reciently.

Don’t Have the Equipment to do reliably.

Would have to measure case sealed with no bearingswith a burret.

Then use an overflow breaker to measure crank and bearing volume. Then subtract it.

Then measure the ends of the crank after they stick through seals. Add that back.

Then tunnels.

Then piston at BDC in jug with tunnels taped off at lowers.

Then, depending on your beliefs, intake port and boot.

A lot of work involved. Not that much Equipment. Would be interesting.

I think the gas tank is relatively small on 044’s if I remember correctly. So I wouldn’t say you did bad for fuel efficiency.

I can speak personally on MOFO Saws and fuel economy. After I got my 026 back and ran it for a while, first thing I mentioned to Al was how good it was on fuel as compared to the power. I was pleasantly surprised.
I had a 440 ported that guzzled fuel.
I realize fuel economy is not very important to tree professionals, but for me, I thought it was important, as I have to buy 5 gallon canned fuel. No Efree gas near me at all.
Very good power for the fuel used.

The 044 he ported wasn’t a gas hog at all. But I’m sure a hybrid uses more fuel, it should. More displacement.
