In the last cuts, it was at 15k. These were the first cuts, so I wanted to keep it tame.

The saw like rpm like no other I’ve built. I see what people talk about. Spins faster than an 044, less low end than an 046. A 7 pin likely woulda been a better match for the 28.
With the bar buried like, only the strongest 90cc saws are going to be faster with an 8-pin.

Have you ever tried 15*-17* blowdown in one of these? How about more intake?

@drf256 Out of curiosity is this saw running a 044 carb or a 046 one?

No

Smaller case made me want lower (physically) transfers. That is what Blair said the motocross guys discovered in the 70's.

On a 460, I like 15* of BD.

After discussions with @Canadian farm boy, we found that higher number tranfers kept the torque up and the rpm's a bit lower with the hybrids.

This was my first hybrid build ever, but alot of the R&D CFB did was during discussions we had. He deserves the credit for that, I just rode on his shoulders.

Mason, the 440 and 460 run the same carb, the HD-11 is the 044 Artic, which is jetted a bit richer and seems to be the best one for the hybrids.

Brad, I know you have done a lot of hybrids, what #s do you like?

Interesting, so would the zama 044 carb be restrictive on a hybrid? Carburetors seem to play a big part of saw performance.

I like the ZAMA, but most people seem to prefer the Wallbro. I think they are the same size, but most of the ZAMA were on early saws, before they went to the snorkel, so they don't have one.

I don't have specs comparing the ZAMA and Walbro jetting. My 044 came with a ZAMA, but when it recently needed a rebuild I put the HD-11 on it instead. Does not make any difference on that saw, so if I need the HD-11 for another saw, I'll rebuild the ZAMA and put it back on.

Very interesting mine must’ve been one of the last with the zama as it had a snorkel. I liked that carb. Easy to put a kit in and cheap for oem kit. Seemed to run well on the saw.

15*-17* of blowdown and 85* on the intake. It works. Ask anyone that's run my hybrid. I'm not knock anyone elses build style, but these numbers work extremely well for me.
You seem to have ported a few 461s. How do they compare to the hybrid?

You'll get a few more RPMs out of the hybrid and little more torque out of the 461. I have videos of both in the same wood. I don't want to take over this thread though. That's not my intent.

Might as well include a good ported 460 in that mix as well.
