Lets just say they sorta suck you in.... Then, after a bit, you really don't mind owning them n stuff

Heh, I think I will just stick with the 041 as my Stihl. Love the sound of that saw.

I still prefer my Husky, Jonsered, and Macs. And a couple Homelites and a Poulans. (which those Homelites and the Poulans need some work to be good to go)

I like old magnesium. If parts weren't a concern, I'd run a Mac every time I cut wood.

I was looking at an 064 for a while, but am not sure I will get one. 395XP sounds real good... especially with the 58mm cylinders available for them. Save the OEM cylinder for when the aftermarket 58mm wears out.

Which at the rate I am cutting wood at this time, would take forever...

But I plan to change that this spring... get a load of logs dropped off...

Nice clean work Al.

Interested to hear your thoughts on the upper trans and what you did there
Will run it today. Fired it off in the garage last night.

Saw is at 101/123 flat/78.

It’s hard to see that I did anything in the pics, the Zep branded purple cleaner literally was dissolving the aluminum. I’m glad I didn’t let a jug soak in it overnight. Simple green does the same to me, but simple green purple cleaner doesn’t, even at 50/50 water mix. The zep made all the carving look like old aluminum.

I did some tunnel work and raised the uppers to 123. Carved the pockets out to factory angles and added a chamfer. Thats about it.

Everytime i sand a band i somehow always get sand scratches in the bore. How do you avoid that? Do you hone them out when you are done?
I get the opposite, scratches in the band from honing.

I use a pvc mandrel and sticky backed paper. Stick on mandrel and trim to edges. Then insert and sand. It never touches the bore.

Al, when you shorten the tapered Piston Pin, you take some from each side to keep it symmetrical?

I wonder if any of the big bore jugs will work well on this application.

I ran this saw, and watched the tune go from the 12’s to just about 15.

This saw has nutz for a hybrid !

Most hybrids are high strung and this one doesn’t fall into that category. It was comfy while I leaned on her and happy to run up high. I don’t know how Al does it, but I’m sure it’s got something to do with his meticulous attention to details.

Great job on this saw Al !!!
