Hi Brad, take a look at a (2 person) sled for moving those heavy pieces out. They don't cost to much and save the body for the next load.

I've been using one of these for a few years, slides OK on grass and sand.

Thanks for the suggestion Ken. I looked at that a few years ago. Most of the time there is to much brush to drag a sled through, but once again thanks for suggestion.

Getting a nice little pile.

That is awesome!!!
How do You load/unload the trunks onto Your trailer?

I need to get a cherry trunk home to try milling on, but other than dragging it all the way I have no clue how I might get it onto my tractor trailer.
It doesn't help that it has been raining a lot lately so the forest ground is really soaked and soft.

P.S./Edit:
I considered improvising a ramp of sorts and drag the trunk(s) onto my trailer.
That'd be quite sketchy to achieve, though it would be the safest way to transport the trunks over any distance on public roads.

If I didn't need the trunks to figure out milling I'd just buck them up into firewood!

Put em on with the kubota, take em off with the backhoe.

Probably some kind of ramps, and maybe a winch or come-a-long type puller would be your best bet for the cherry logs you've got there.

I got the dead oak noodled down and carried out to the pile. It was about a 35 yard walk to carry the pieces out to the pile. I normally try to find trees closer to a trail or a clearing. I noodled it down with my old scarr 572XP and a 32" bar.

Worked on getting my wood yard cleaned up today! Should have taken some before pictures, it was a mess. Had a guy dump about 5 t-tag dumps full of pine, hemlock and aspen off over the summer right in the middle of this area. Just finally got the last bit cleaned up today.

Started this rank on October 6th. This picture was taken on the 23’rd.

This was November 1st.

This was today. It’s all red, white and a Little Rock oak. Still need about 3 more pickup loads to finish the second rank.

Man that’s a lot of hard work moving all that by hand! My back hurts just thinking about it!

Not a score, more of a processing post. I had a big hickory taken down in the beginning of September. I’ve been tied up until lest weekend. I managed to split this between last and this weekend.
Last Sunday I woke up in the middle of the night due to my forearms aching. This weekend wasn’t as bad. As long as I continue to swing the maul through to the spring, I’ll be able to avoid getting sore again.
One more thing. This was some wet stringy hickory when it came down. I thought it being wet would make it easier to split, not even close. The moisture just keeps the “strings” flexible and they hang on longer. Two months out being bucked, it has been easier to split. It makes me miss those straight grain red oak scores from years past.

I saw a lot

Man that’s a lot of hard work moving all that by hand! My back hurts just thinking about it!
All the firewood that I cut for the landowners owb is done with my saws and manpower. There is endless wood on the property! A couple weeks ago I tried marking dead trees while the leaves were still on. I stopped marking after I found about 300 dead standing trees in a area that I've never cut on before! It's a lot of work without equipment! I think @Wolverine and myself harvest firewood without equipment. It's a lot of work! My job is to get firewood to a trail or field edge. The landowner will come and split it and haul it to his wood shed. Theses pic are from a couple years ago.

Yep, I can only dream of using a tractor to help. And since both kids are grown, 95% of the time I'm alone doing it.
I knew what I was getting into though. THis was my very first hoard of wood. The local apple orchards (owned by Motts and KNouse Foods) sold permits to cut all you want for $1. They doze trees over. Talk about a LOT of work!

Ended up being 16 cords.
