My biggest chainsaw pet peeves are the manufacturers themselves. The way Husky turned venerated marques (Poulan, Mac, Jred) into throwaway junk, it's like making your grandma work a street corner. And, Makita erasing Dolmar, one of the most historically significant makers.
Mac and Poulan are making junks before husky get their hands on I guess. So does Homelite.

I agree with you, however their new ownership knowingly accelerated the process. It's like they were finally taking revenge on their former competitors.

One of my pet peeves (not yet mentioned) is having a customer drop off a saw and say “no rush at all, just call me when it’s ready” and then, call the next week wanting their saw back. I started telling folks that repairs are 3 weeks out (behind) after the first time that happened.

Your right about that, most of the cheap crap saws that come in, big companies included, are fried and ain't worth my time, all around the almighty $ and no sense of pride in their products but at the same time not leaving much choice in purchasing a new non pro saw, myself I like bringing the 3 series era pro saws back from the dead, husky or stihl, worth the time and work.

I love it!
Those same neighbors come running when they hear me and my saws disturbing the neighborhood silence!

The most common comments I get is "Your saw(s) just don't stop!" and "That is a fast saw!".

A guy pulls up in a new $65,000 truck and pulls out 2 broken saws from the early 80's and wants them fixed cheap.

An old fellow goes to a dealer for a new bar and chain for a saw that he can start. The dealer talks him out of his old saw for 10 bucks and sells him a shiny, new saw that he can't start.

To me that depends on which model rancher. The 455 and the 460 are pretty heavy for the power they put out. But I actually really like the little 450, as it’s light and has good power too, pulls a 16 .325 real nice. Even though for an extra $50 I can get a 501p
I think any saw that uses the plastic case as the bottom half of the crank case is a pos in my opinion. I’ve seen so many blown 350’s because of loose exhaust or the plastic case half looses seal so saw blows up. At the very least when the exhaust falls off it melts the oil tank. I just can’t imagine a stratto version of a 350 being any better

At my side job, I've been considering switching from sporting goods to the Stihl department. Now that I think about it, I don't think that would work. I would have to bite my tongue all day long. Between telling people to read the frickin' manual before they use their machine and explaining why the plastic consumer saws are really not such a good deal, I wouldn't last very long!

Person may not like them but I’ve seen plenty of 170-250’s that have been treated like garbage but won’t give up

I’d convince them into buying way overkill, i.e. recommending a 261 for pruning 4 inch trees once every 2-3 years
When storm Zeta went through the saw shop up in the mountains sold EVERY SAW AND ALL THEIR CHAIN! I said to a cutter buddy of mine ,next year is gonna be great time to buy a used 661 or 395 in that area because you know the last saws on the shelves were the big boys ! The last poor SOB who wandered in late must have been hurting .

Hearing “You fix chainsaws? I’ve got a (insert trimmer, leaf blower, junk saw) that hasn’t run right in years. Can you fix it?” Like others have said I’ll gladly help friends and family, it’s the friend of a friend of a friend stuff that I hate. Their desire to get it fixed usually fades when I tell them They have to clean it or I’ll charge $50 to clean it up

My gripe is more with the value received for the price. The Echo CS-490 and 590 spank the Stihl MS-250 and Farm Boss series in every way for the same price or less. Right now, the Stihl department has an ad on the wall with a pic of a guy holding an MS-250 with 20" bar standing next to a big pile of firewood. The look on his face says "I'm a real lumberjack now". I always laugh when I walk by it.

While I agree completely with this statement I actually know quite a few people that have cut enough wood to heat their house for the last 8-10 years with an ms250. Most of them have a boiler and are cutting 10-14 chords minimum. The few with inside stoves are cutting less volume but making twice the cuts because the stove only takes 16-18” wood.

The 250 isn't a bad saw by any means, we sell bunches of them. Many are sold to replace an 024 or 025 that finally gave up the ghost. If I found a nice example in a pawn shop for the right price I might give it a try.

I sure as heck wouldn’t consider it a replacement for an 024 other than it being the same size saw because they for sure aren’t the same quality
