Hmm never thought about that. I’d be curious what a ported 359 looks like on the dyno. Would be interesting to see what it looks like compared to some other strong 60’s…361, 562, 6100, 620p etc. I have a ported one and a couple stockers. Always felt pretty strong. I’d like to throw a 357 top end on one of my stock 359’s one of these days.

Joe, are you going to play with this thing some more, or just sail it? After I get through a couple more saws, I'm gonna have to pull out my pile of hybrid stuff and get to work on it.

I think it’s a mistake.

Tight case-More Vacuum/Compression. So it’s gonna pull more charge in and spit more back. There’s no reed valve.

It’s like when guys make full circle cranks. To the best of my knowledge they reduce intake duration and powercurve gets shifted up in the rpm range.

I think he needs more carb too, but Joe does monster 590/52mm 046 Hybrids that do great with the stock modded 590 carb (unless I am mistaken).

I also hate AM jugs. There is a finesse in the OEM transfer tunnels that’s not always readily apparent.
The hybrid Joe built me made north of 9 horse on a modified carb (oem to the 590/620). More than enough.

I pulled my box down off the shelf last night. Should we have a friendly little build-off? @Red97 ?

Well, it’s not in the mail yet, but I’m making progress.

It’s a hack job on a hyway jug. 390 boot, hd12 knockoff, welding rod throttle linkage, bolt on AV bracket, exhaust plate to use the original muffler, pulse barb by intake.

Still needs stabilizing for the carb and the muffler, piston fit-up, top cover needs some clearance, kill switch and choke need mounted.

Then there’s porting. Props to Joe. This thing has a million steps.

So I'll get to run it next weekend?

Sorry I was late to the party. Here's the XS357 graph from the original dyno. It's a great saw for fast firewoodin'xs 357xpg.png
Brad's mom is fast with wood too. All types.

Very nice.

Would love to see the how you attached the 390 boot.

I went the 372 carb/elbow route too.

You can use some grease, or make a silicone gasket and the dolmar 7900 filter fits like a glove20230112_092524.jpg

Also switched to a 55 muffler and 268 brace

Still have 1 more boot setup to try, then a piston swap and further porting. I want to hit 7.5hp

Just a quick test with my junk boot but the 372 carb setup.

Still need to bend a rod, but nice to see it can fit like that!

Can't wait to see yours running.

Love the adapters very very clever!!

For the carb mount I had planned on using the 372 rubber piece and drilling the carb floor. Remove the factory rubber on the clutch side to use the 372 choke lever through the top cover.

Love the way this momentary switch looks, and fits but I don't think it would stay even if I glued it in. But I may try it. I ordered some push button round ones that have a retaining nut.

With the larger carb, it is definitely making the tq, but since I didn't see much top end gain over the tiny zama el32 clone carb I am guessing my current boot is a big limiter. Hope to swap that next week.
