Some of you guys are really overthinking this...

Mahle pin, 10mm, some random carbide, cut easily, case hardened, 5 minutes...
Took me longer to edit pic and write this post...
Highly unlikely any type of chuck jaws will damage a hardened bearing surface.

Sideways balance of a pin? Really?

As for reciprocating weight, the lighter the better for keeping things in one piece.

As for crank balance, changing a bit a of reciprocating weight (quite a bit really) on a single cylinder 2 stroke doesn't matter for chit...

If they're just case hardened then it really is that easy. Actually there probably good opportunity there to loose quite a lot of weight making a pin from something good.

Talking to a friend that designs pistons every day for Mahle, he told me changing upper RPM limit from 12,500 to 13,000 is amazing the difference on bottom end and such even on a saw sized motor.

You're right......it's all physics.
Multiply for weight
Squared for velocity.

They make titanium pins already. Some guys have had galling issues with stock pistons. The dominant pistons have holes in the bottom of the pin boss, maybe mix lubricates and cools the pin? Because I've heard they work fine

I've had one that I caught on the verge of coming apart. Gotta watch how much you take off.

I'll get pics tomorrow
Yep
No failure or stress points allowed.
Everything must have a nice radius and meat where it counts.

I was thinking super hot rod s7 shrunk fit around aluminum hollow tapered center. Make some formula 1 *s-word lol. I'm assuming the titanium pins are dlc coated or some other coating?

Okay. GFY. Felling much better now? [emoji2]

There's a brain to pick.

Ooooo... In HS we could get rid of three or four grams in a few minutes. Easy peasy.

Forget safe. I took 14 off one. Braaaap brap...
He is a heck of a guy. Currently building all the stuff to put a 3-71 blower on a Flathead. Building a 50s period correct hot rod.

‘Canadian’ block came relieved from the factory. At least that’s what they were called in my neighborhood.

While lighter is better for RPM's, everything must be matched..

In the V8 or other 4 stroke's, when building a "Race Motor" and using lighter pistons and or rods, the crank balance needs to be matched.
While a balancer on the end of the crank helps with some vibration, the overall balance between the crank, rods, and pistons all need to be balanced.

Would it not be a good starting point in a saw to weigh a stock rod, piston, and pin, then weight the new lighter ones and remove enough from the crank so as to balance the entire unit?
Not on these single cylinder saws. The same bottom ends are used on 60/70/80cc topends.
