Guys on this forum put holes the size of dalls' girlfriend in their muffler..sound won't mean much to this crowd..

I know everyone's life experiences are different but the guys I know don't really care about those things...for me the vibration difference between a 462 and a 400 is something I won't even notice. Let alone care about...
So muffler holes the size of the mouth on a blow up dall?

Me also just saying for the guys that have to play with a screw driver or for a race only set up the parts might work to convert a 400 to carb.

I have never had a carburetor go so bad on me in the field I could not finish my work in 30+ years of sawing.
I have had several MTronics and AT go so bad, some so bad I can't get a saw to start, let alone finish.
I would gladly pay a 10-20% loss in performance and fuel I may have to get back with porting and muff mod to get nearly the 100% reliability a carb gives. I don't often work 10 yards from my shop or a work truck out fitted for repairs. I am literally on the side of a mountain most of the time with a tractor.
I have to look after dozens of saws on several estates. The estates with non Mtronic/AT get more work done. Yes, it is often because I do not get around to maintaining the saw often enough. I am only one guy. Having said it, if one saw needs less maintenance and care than the other - that is the better saw in most people's books.
That's gonna change as MT and AT make their way into things. But as it is, we try to steer clear of MT and AT at every chance.
OK< rant off.
Andrew - where's my 7900's? ;)

I respect your opinion and mine still is that mtronic is better in the fact lots of saws were totally lost from an air leak that the operator didn’t catch. Mtronic is a carb saw any way you look at it they just took the screws away, seems 80 % of the time if mtronic gos south if a reset doesn’t work a solenoid will. Yes there is the ones that require a shop visit but a solenoid and reset can be done in the woods. Or if you have multiple saws of same model order a complete carb to swap on to the saw if it starts to run bad and the reset didn’t work. I have suggested the mtronic to many average everyday wood cutters and tree services. So far everyone loves them and that’s all they buy. No solenoid changes yet even though I have spares on shelf and only 2 started to run funny but a reset fixed them. Clean fuel and change the filters once a year.

This.

M-tronic has been around almost 10 years now, it's pretty much bulletproof at this point, not to mention it's saved chainsaws from the gorillas that run them in more ways than one.

I had a few issues with it here and there that pissed me off.. but as you said a solenoid or reset fixed that.

For a worksaw I think it's a perfect system...just my opinion.

It sucks that you have had bad luck with the at/mt saws. My experience has been the opposite. I like them. Especially in the hands of unskilled hammer donkey operators. Don’t get me wrong I love my ported 7910 long time, but these MT saws are where it’s at.

I didn't notice a difference in vibration. The noise level is also very close.

Definitely agree with your statements here, most of the people that buy saws aren’t mechanics and have no desire to be either. The saws run till they don’t and then it gos in for repair. Even a lot of the local tree service guys and loggers knowledge of a saw consists of you pull on the rope it starts, pulls the semi sharp chain around the bar to cut a tree and when it quits fill tank. If it’s not out of gas and quit grab another saw and send the broken one in. The mtronic will survive this style of operation better than the standard carb will. You have better chance of having something left to repair.
