What's wrong with the MS661?

Hey @odin I wanna see pics of trees warranted for 661 lol.

Seriously though, two things come to mind. One, milling (there's a bit I'd like to do). And two, cottonwood. I don't really care to burn it, but have a couple of friends who would like some down. And I have no desire to put my 70cc to that much abuse.

I've seen CL ads in eastern WY & CO advertising cottonwood as hard wood....LOL

I cut this entire cottonwood down, stump and all, with a 461 wearing a 28" bar. Was a big stump.....

A little bit here and there yes. But you have to look for it, or know where to go. It's not close by. But I know where there is some. Have cut & hauled some home before.

1st winter I lived here I burned a ton of cottonwood, because it was all I could find. 2nd winter was a mix of elm & cottonwood. I still burn cottonwood now and then, but try to avoid it.

Probably not. The only reason it's this far north from Texas was for its use as wind breaks after the dust bowl years. You can cut it and stick it right in the ground for fence posts, the chit just wont rot.

Here’s a good sized oak. About the last tree I cut up early this year or late last year.

140 maybe. It was civil war era best I remember. I don’t know if any of it’s still sound enough to count again

Pasture tree? They grow relatively fast. I counted over 70 growth rings in a 8-10” dead oak one time. It had been growing in the shade of the understory forest. 154 in a 2.5’ white ash, another forest growth.

We cut several trees in our area that had musket balls in them, a rifle and bayonet in the center...

That’s cool. There’s a couple more that are bigger than that one there. I cut a football off another one that was a fence line tree that was over 60”.
