The universal solution is swapping the choke shaft control lever on the carb. Sometimes you can just swap the saw's control levers, but sometimes they will not work.

I wish I could remember which swaps worked and which did not, but I have done 460 carbs into a 461, and 461 carbs into 460s and 440s. I think you can also mod a 461 control lever to get a 460 carb to work.

I just know that some control levers will not work in some saws. I'm thinking a 460 lever in a 461, or a 461 lever in a 440??? (maybe both)? I just remember I had some problems when I played with these things.
I'm completely up in the air on this one I'm building. It's going to be a hybrid from boxes of junk.
I only have one 044 Zama carb now. So I'll have to find/ buy some stuff anyways.

I am not real carb literate, I can rebuild one and set the fuel valve lever, and that is about it.

I did, however, check the boxes that these carbs came in (luckily, I used them to store the carbs that came off the saws).

They seem to both be identical … HD-50A (or HD-50 in English), 1128-120-0629.

Since I'm having issues with the Asian carb on my 440 BB #4, I think I will put the HD-50 I did not use yet on that and see what happens.

The saw seemed to run great, briefly, before the carb crapped out (at least I think that is what happened).

It looks like it has the possible mounts and bosses...it would be really nice with a break!

Ps, eBay has complete used ones for $20

Kids dirt bike wheel. He keeps ripping the valve stem out...time for a rim lock. Should be fun.

Yup. Stihl's keep their nuts, they don't fall off or loose them.
