on my bench today was the neigbors ryobi bp42 leaf blower. he said he put a new carburetor on it and it wouldnt run. gas was leaking all over the place. i replaced all the usual lines and such. i found the carb screws turned all the way in. she runs like a champ now.

I guess they thought they needed to be tightened down because they were installing a new carb?!!???
Only line of reasoning that’s makes sense m…

Helpful neighbor attempting his own repair: "Oh...I found another loose screw, I better tighten them all down or this might leak.....hmm, now it doesn't run...."

Needs a good cleaning and inspection. We will have to make a few gaskets on the way back together since some were torn during disassembly. I would like to hear it run but I don't think I will go out and buy a boat...the fuel tank is rather rusty inside so this may be another "runs on prime" sort of display piece.

2.125" bore x 1.5" stroke makes this one 87cc, I think the block started life as one of the Super Series engine designs but has some modifications for this outboard application. It uses the same thin piston rings as many of the saws (48691).

All cleaned up and going back together...we had to make a couple of gaskets for the pieces that connect the engine to the shaft housing and that slowed things down. I have a bit more cleaning to do on some of the exterior pieces to try and remove some stains but I do believe it will look pretty good in the display, assuming I can find a space for it.

so yesterday morning before i took it back, i wanted to start it and its a no go and flooded a rediculous amount of gas. so took the carb back off and repressure tested and it would not hold. wtf i took the needle out and blew carb cleaner through the port and made sure there wasnt anythjng on the needle. no bueno it will not hold pressure. i am a little confused as to why it held the day before and ran good. i gave up and ordered another one.

A small collection that I'm going to go over, inspect, clean, shine up, then we'll see if any remain or if they get dumped on the market.

Not in the picture,
Come to think of it, I have two 254SGs too, and two 42 Specials that need to be polished up.
And, two tree of 44/444s.

Next is to shine up 133, 238 242, 246, 346, they're all to keep.

All together again. I did give it a prime and it fired right up, but with the condition of the fuel tank I don't think I will bother fueling it and running it in a bucket of water...even though it is an air cooled engine, there is a water pump of sorts in the lower end that pumps water up and splashes it on the bottom side of the crankcase and mixes water with the exhaust gasses as they pass down the shaft housing and discharge underwater.

After failing lesson 1 of @Mastermind school of saw dentistry with unneccesary lower transfer whittling , feel like I'm hitting all the OPE consenus magic numbers way too easily on this 044.
Squish band cut 30ish Base ? Eased it down till I got 20-25 squish
Intake 78 exhaust 102., Stock. 71 and 99 . Cut intake. Exhaust 102 came with base cut and gasket delete.
Transfers 126 after base cut and gasket delte, 123 before. little cut off wheels in the mail
Shooting for 122
Something has to be wrong because I ain’t living right. Did start the day off breaking a ring......... again.

What a smelly saw. The start/stop lever is the wrong color and your fins are on sideways. You must be on the weak crank. At least your wheel is the right color.

Seriously though it looks nice. I like to stick mine on the fly wheel side and snug'em down, I make these little adapters. The old way is pictured but I'm always paranoid it will slip.

She's bad to skip baths. Why do you go to the flywheel side with the best color degree wheel?

My adapter threads on to the crank, I have two flats I ground on it so I can tighten it down with a wrench. It can't slip like the drill chuck. That way I know it hasn't wandered out of position when I'm checking timing. I realized at some point that I only needed two for most modern husqy's, so not much of an effort and a fun little lathe project. Its been forever but I want to say they are 8 and 10mm internal threads. One less thing I can screw up.
