I just watched @Mattyo 's video on youtube. I'm thinking I must have rolled the seal last time, so now I at least have a better idea what I'm looking for.

Thanks everyone for the advice.

Looks like I was thinking of the 288.

Disregard my post. LOL

excellent vid
just adding my $0.02:
I prefer a thin, yet somewhat rigid, plastic over the aluminum. I don't trust ANYTHING sharp up against my seal lips. Can find the plastic on toy, or otherwise, boxes.
I lubricate my seal and plastic with grease so-as to minimize friction.
When driving the seal home i put a flat washer over the shaft that will fit flatly on the case so my seal does not go in cocked.
Learned all these tricks the hard way. Just sayin

I like the grease and flat washer trick. Thanks for the input.

My buddy's XL-12. Reassembled the carb and sharpened the chain. Still waiting for intake gaskets.

Reassembled the 051. Got it running and base tuned. Pulling about 9700 and max is 10000. Test cuts tomorrow then to get a loop of RMF for the 36" bar. She's pretty blubbery but seems to clean up in the cut.
