Got a quartet of Evil Twins on the bench. Wanna guess how many have spark?

If anyone has a handle bracket (where half wrap attaches to saw), ignition module, parts saw, or white plastic knuckle guard that they can cut loose with, please message me. Also, at least one of these saws will end up as a parts saw, so message me if you need something.

Thanks

Scott

This is one of the issues a 550 normally have:
_DSC5169.jpg

Let's admit them Husky engineers could improve them 550's a tad...
_DSC5174.jpg

And torque them crankcase bolts a tad more...

Something else happened inside....

we've all seen this before...

:sherlock:lots of problems happening there.
Most of the problems seem like easy enough repairs but I'm curious what can be done with the uneven cases. Maybe split the cases and hope they line up better on reassembly?

I plan to use those bearings and one old crank, into the mill the case has to go Mike. Something Husky should had done long time ago, after they got lots of complains for the jug foot leakage they introduced a tube silicone as a permanent fix!

And while I'm into it, Husky introduced a bearing mounting tool kit to their new baby 572.
This 550 picture tells how I feel about them cold pressing a bearing into the pocket

Then, of course, the “Unicorn Jug” he said he wanted to give me because of spite. He didn’t want to give it up for sale.

I’m impressed he used a KS piston in mine. Used, but still KS. I’m sure it’s somehow my fault.

Happy the guy is out of my life. The above saw cost me over $1000 all in. Thank god it’s a hobby and It’s supposed to cost some money. As usual with his builds, he used Junk.
Wow man just pathetic.

I also "played" with my truck and 661 yesterday with the few minutes of daylight that I had.. .
That stick came from the uphill cut and dragged some of the downhill cut with it...

661 got less than half a tank thru her....
Maybe have time to slice it up tomorrow.

Red oak been down almost a year, upper cut is about 22" lower about 28" had to go up over the top and hit the far side first with just the 24" bar...
Dirty bastage still tried to pinch up that shiny new b & c...

I'm guessing it was pieces of the plastic cage... Explains the "polished" look... Doesn't look "ground" and glittery like aluminum piston parts would probably make... Usually what makes the seals leak is the extra play when the balls aren't spaced evenly.
Might just be a WAG....

Spliting a perfectly good 661 case for some science. Wheres The Julie of Ann?

Gonna squeeze a 2100 crank in them case halves so the clutch will be in the right spot?

Putting this 660 back together (for the 3rd time) and I broke the damned off/on/choke switch. How; I have no idea....

its difficult to know Wayne, those 5xx serie saws has very narrow tolerances, probleby the crank stuffer who have smeared the case a tad.
After I split her apart, I knew why I found so many of those weird minor leaks, unfortantly, I've seen the same issue before.
Saws like this 550 is why I'm a big fan of pre heathing case halfs before the bearings go in.
