That 460 has been in that shop for over a year and has a scored P&C. At $85/hr for labor, it is not worth fixing for them, and they have borrowed a few parts from it.

I have a nice 046-D jug for it, and I'm just hoping the bottom end is OK. The scoring does not look real bad, but it looks more like it was from a piece of metal than from aluminum transfer due to bad gas, etc. So I will have to try real hard to ID the source of the problem.

Worse comes to worse, it is a full rebuild, and a new learning experience for me.

There is also a MS440 with a scored P&C that I'm hoping to get next. That one looks like aluminum transfer.

I think their lease may expire soon, so they are getting rid of unnecessary items.

Joey you might know this one ;) That topend has been ran hard and abused by local firewood cutter, but still looks like new. Tore it down yesterday.

Lol. Several years ago too. Must of got a good topend, as it was a aftermarket one.

Speaking of 268, I loaned one out a few years ago, I done forgot about it. Hmmm?

Yep knew it is aftermarket. Amazing looking still. Bet he has close to 5 years on it now, if guessing.

Fighting issues right now with it. All in the 268 272 thread.

I'd do a full rebuild if it were mine.
Especially considering you only paid $50 for it.
That little scoring could be from a bearing......
Never know

I get so confused by these complex builds, does that orange thing on the bench power the hydraulics for the plow, the Mt. Dew Can Crusher or is it just gong to be hooked to the generator for the flashlight in the last picture.
I am guessing if you were building a chainsaw you would be using a Stihl, right?
Also does the "X" in the exhaust port indicate a cull cylinder?
Just trying to learn and a few other guys said I should pay attention 'cause you know stuff :)

Where are the merengue dancer smileys?
no no no that's the intake port dummy :D

oh crap you mean they are different on some saws?
I always just push down on the cylinder till I hear the rings make that neat little snapping noise and then just torque down however many bolts are in the little ashtray on the workbench in whatever way the cylinder landed.
so much to learn so much to learn
so we mark cull cylinders with an "X " on the intake port unless it is a Stihl?
I am so close to being an expert :)

We need pictures my friend. We are picture hoes.

I will get some in the morning. I'm loving that 346 you did for me. One question though, how do you cut the base of the cylinder. I can't quite wrap my mind about how to hold it in the 4 jaw and get it indicated in.
