No pulse hose. Direct off intake.
I think it may be the reed valve. Ther is a little gap i could see into cylinder a little.

You could probably get away with flipping the reed valve over. That should get it to seal up. Check the pulse hole with a carb cleaner straw shoved through it.

It should be 2 very small screws, then you can flip it over. Edit you have to take the top handle assembly off because the screw is on the under side.
Ok thanks. Wont get back out to the shed tonight. Will check it out tomorrow after work. Thanks for helping.

How will this work? The reed will not operate backwards , will it?

Update on my muffler mod...the self tapping screws kept vibrating loose. I riveted the deflector on this time with steel rivets. Well see how it does now. I need to learn how to braze. FCE607F8-AEA7-4468-8D2F-E1749382A571.jpeg

Was having a few brews in the work area yesterday with a firewood cutter with 3 saws in tow. He is getting little older and just a tad over a year from retirement. So the heavier bigger saw was cut from his stable. He had 71cc 62cc 52cc
Anyhow I somehow ended up with a 1987 husqvarna 268XP with aftermarket 272 topend and newer style clutch cover. Plus some bars and chains.
The 268 is SE on black metal tag and XP on covers. Spike has info on the SE XP deal in thread below.
Thread on it when I first got it on trade from Va 3-2011 https://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/husqvarna/husqvarna-268/

Not planning on keeping anything. But if I do going back with oem 268xp-272. Also carb on it is a afm got from Dave to test out. Still have the oem carb in a bin somewhere.

Got the old 041 running. Put the new carb kit in today. Needed that fuel system overhaul. She fired right up and ran. Adjusted the carb, seems good now.

Will post a picture soon.

Thinking about a muffler mod... get rid of the two small louvers and braze a 1" pipe, or two 1/2" pipes in there... original muffler was toast, so a new muffler was put on a few years ago. Should be reasonably easy to braze a pipe or two in.

Not on my bench, but rather on my PC table.

AM 49mm 039 P&C kit off eBay, and no I don't have any Stihl saws, I got it for an acquaintance for his blown 039 (his OEM P&C are not salvageable, they ate a circlip).

I'm not happy with the AM P&C kit that I received today, something looks very wrong!

Hint: It wasn't an "impulse" purchase!

Good deal hopefully it's a runner tomorrow.
Well no luck yet. I pulled top cover off to inspect the reed valve and looked good. I flipped it anyhow. Reasembled and no luck again.
Next gonna try swapping the carb. Hope to get time later. Gotta go away for a bit after suppor.

It's just about got to be the carb then.

Carpenter, Wyo.
This dam little saw is still on my bench and making me mad.
Has good spark. 135 psi, should be enough to make it run .
Just put carb kit in and removed to double check gaskets were proper and in correct order. Befor kit i couldnt get fuel to carb now the fuel is getting ther. Spark plug is wet. Cant get even a slight pop out of it.

Anybody got any ideas?

This is what I would do. I would pull the spark plug and hold the throttle wide open and blow compressed air down through the carb and into the spark plug hole. Then pull the rope while holding the throttle wide open about 5 times and repeat the process.
Then put the spark plug back in make sure the choke is off and hold the throttle wide open and pull the rope about 5 times and see what it does. If it does not try and fire off then pull plug and see if it is wet or dry. If the plug is dry then squirt a little fuel mix into the carb and hold throttle wide open no choke and see if it fires. If it fires then the carb is most likely your problem. If the plug is still dry and does not try and fire the repeat last procedure one more time. If plug is still dry then you could have a bad air leak or bad compression. If plug is wet then there is no spark under compression.
