I usually have no problem tuning but this one is real finicky. I thought I had it just right but apparently not. Doesn't take much for it to be off.

I'm working on a J red 535 right now with the same issue. Just did a complete rebuild and leak down test was good.

I'll be pulling it back apart to recheck everything and possibly a carb swap.

Some saws are just a pita and this is one of them.

I'm considering it. I'll have to see if I have another SDC carb to mount up.

@Mattyo got me fixed right up. The low end is still pretty finicky though. Very narrow range between just right and flooding.

I had the same issue on a 372 ... used AM carbs, both were finicky ... used an oem carb and it tuned fine. I dunno what it is about the am carbs, but they just didn't flow right at idle. wish I could figure out that issue... anyway, you may need to swap out the carb to get it to run ...not finicky. :)

btw, i take no credit for the idea... @jmssaws is the man

Have you checked the pop off pressure?
Finicky low is generally not enough pop off.

After running great last night It was a PITA this morning after sitting. I'll test the pop off and try to shim it today. Will report back later. Thanks Jim.

Checked pop off pressure, seemed to be around 20psi. Also found a small leak on the inlet seat so I replaced the needle with the old one and the leak resolved. Anyone have any idea what the pop off pressure should be? I did shim the spring about 005.
After all this the saw gave me even more fits. I read you can damage the diagram checking pop off. Wondering if I put to much pressure on it.
