I feel a lot of it comes down to the dilution ratio with some of these cleaners. Some have turned aluminum dark gray in my trials, some even seemed like they etched parts.

Personally I use Dawn Ultra + water for general degreasing. LAs Totally Awesome for hardware only, and Simple Green Aircraft Cleaner on cylinders (rinsed with distilled water and compressor dried).

I like using Berrymans b12 on stubborn carbon deposits or oil staining

Simple green is good stuff too that won't harm metal.

I tried some purple stuff from fleet farm once…it did like what you said. I would love to use something cheaper than the simple greed hd, but i know it works

Looks like $6+/gal at Wally World. I this stuff works better at cleaning Al I definitely want to try it.

That is what I'm thinking too. I push my solution too long because of the expense.

Mean Green does contain sodium hydroxide, that's why it works so well.

The directions say not to use on aluminum but I soak flywheels in full strength and they normally come out looking very good. I have not experienced any discoloration or oxidation/corrosion using Mean Green even when the parts are not completely submerged.

I left a flywheel soaking in my bucket today for a couple of hours, rinsed it with hot water and it looked just like new. I've soaked maybe 25 chains in the same bucket previously to clean them up before sharpening so it was not perfectly fresh.

Today's project was getting this "modern" McCulloch cleaned up for the display. You'll have to take my word on the flywheel looking like new.





This is one of the Jenn Feng era saws, unfortunately it had a dead coil. Good news is Amazon had a replacement for $20 delivered so we'll see if we can make it run properly again.

Once the stupid SLR tube is removed from a PS-7310 muffler it wakes up tremendously.
Empty can muffler on both, the PS-7310 is snappier & keeps higher in cut rpm.
The PS-7900 sports a bit more torque though, making it a better long bar or .404" saw.

I run 24" 3/8" on my PS-7310, seems to be a perfect match.
My secondary PS-7900 is also set up with 24" 3/8" and she feels slower, yet more powerful.

The OEM 73cc is noticeably less thirsty than the OEM 79cc!

Hard to beat dish detergent with degreaser in hot water.
