This is a Super XL925 I put together before we moved ,thats been waiting for a P/V test.
I have a sheet of red high temp silicone for block off sealer. I have to make the intake plate and put a port for the mighty vac.
This saw has new everything ,so its a little frustrating.

I'm also running a non governed HS.

Kiwioilboiler,
Mid 70's to early 80's, I can't recall if we could get more than a two taper needle for the Mikunis (Around here at least).
Some guys were hand polishing them in a drill chuck, to get desired tapers.

Did you guys get into filing the bottoms of the carb slides (round ones)?
We sometimes filed a bit off the bottom of them. Created less of an angle to the intake side and just shortened the engine side if the slide. Don't forget to re-work that notch on the engine side of the slide.
Sometimes fiddling with the height of that partial "wall" at the top of the emulsion tube also.

What we were after was that "just off idle transition" tuning.
Getting a little better throttle response in non-accelerator pump carbs. No more flat spot!
Having the pump (usually an add on, Sudco kit, I think) was just gravy.

....anyone else ever drop the danged "E" clip (from the slide needle) in the dirt cause ya were adjusting it in the field?

IMG_5666.jpegimage.jpgTried something different cleaning and it worked. This project 026 has been sitting in my garage for the last 2 years collecting lots of paint overspray and dust. The surface felt like fine sandpaper. I wanted to look nice as it will be a gift. I remembered a clay bar I used to use cleaning up my Corvette. Car’s gone but the clay bar was in the bottom of my tool box so I brought it home. With just a little soapy water and some elbow grease this thing is like new. If you’ve never used one you need to try it, it’s amazing.image.jpg

The triple taper Suzuki needles were for the Keihins.
Then something happened and KTM went to Mikuni on my 2017 Ktm/Husqvarna. It sucked. A place in Melbourne Australia, Two Stroke Performance, sent me a slide that was modified, possibly how you mentioned, and a jet kit, and an inlet manifold that tipped the carb a bit one way because otherwise fuel just literally ran out of it if it was anything but straight up and down.
It's good now, but was a pita to set up. New ones are all fuel injected I believe, but I have heard that that is not a totally reliable system.

Kiwioilboiler, I forgot to ask if the Keihins still had/have that vertical oval bore?
I remember the stock Honda carbs having it.
I can imagine a triple (or progressive or curved) taper being handy in that broad transition of air flow and the bottom of the venturi probably needing a bit smaller needle to keep fuel flow to match the proportional % change of air flow vs gravity on the fuel lift, when the slide was far up.

Been many a year, so things are getting fuzzy on me though.

Made a Husqvarna 288 lite clone IMG_20240131_151054~2.jpg
It was the best of the 288 series to me.

Been working on my brother's 2012 Toyota Highlander
It's always been perfectly reliable until yesterday
His wife backed out of the driveway
And the power steering stopped working
So she shut it off and tried to restart it.
It wouldn't restart
So my brother put a new battery in it.
And it starts but the warning lights won't go off.
I tested the old battery it's perfectly fine
And my scan tool shows no codes.
Alternator is good
No corrosion on any of the wires.
Might have to take it to a dealership for a scan.

Yes, oval slide mate.
