Thanks !, thats one heck of a big saw your brother got there.
Is it a runner?
Yep, runs good but it's lean on the high end. Fixed high jet, so that's gonna be fun to figure out. It goes beautifully with his 1020XP Homelite he picked up a few years ago.

Last year I bought a busted up Jonsered 2171. Almost all the parts on it were still good.
For me it's the first time splitting a case and transferring a crankshaft.

I bought new OEM cases, but they came with the bearings with a plastic retainer. Took them out and put on Nachi bearings.

My pimped out 7900. Just down for the occasional log. Actually, it’s wearing one of my “practice” square ground chains. The cutters aren’t pretty enough to show off for now, they seem to cut real well though. You can call me “still working at it”. I will tell you this, when the manufacturers square grind the cutters for their chains, it’s done before the chain is put together, so they don’t have to deal with tie straps and drive links and stuff. Geez… image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Yes I did , and the chains I’ve ground so far have all cut really, really good. I’ve never been able to sharpen a chain to my satisfaction until now. I’m trying to find a way to stay out of the chassis. Once I can do that I think it’ll be even more satisfying.

Since I think I'm way ahead of the firewood got time to tinker on chainsaws .Two Huskies ,a 281 and a 2100CD both almost impossible to turn over .plus an SP 81 Mac I'm waiting for a fuel line to arrive .If the later starts after sitting on a shelf for 10 years I'll tweek it a tad bit .I made a screamer out of a 6-10 years ago maybe I can do the same to it .The SP 81 has a points ignition which makes it easy to advance the timing a wee bit .It might do well in the 80-85 class at saw fest in spite of the fact it's nearly 50 years old .If not I'm certain it will be the loudest .
