What’s the funny blue thing by the tuning holes?View attachment 317732 On my saws I like the gunning line to be black, and painting them black doesn't seem to last...or turn out looking crisp so I tried another process using Birchwood Casey aluminum black, its a acid that is used in gunsmithing. I sand the face edge of the raised gunning line till all the aluminum is shining, and lightly warm the clutch cover with a heat gun. Once its really warm to touch, I use a Q-tip dipped in the acid and one or two swipes on the warm exposed aluminum turns it BLACK..and I've found it very durable. I've never painted one that had such crisp edges..and I've tried many times. It also works like a champ on the STIHL lettering.
Thats pretty slick! Can you share how you make those?Little closer on the 660View attachment 317779
The secret is out….Hi speed mix knob. I make em, custom for all my saws. No screwdriver needed, View attachment 317778 2 seconds and back to cutting..
I had one on my bench when you were here. You could’ve played with it…Thats pretty slick! Can you share how you make those?
So the tote of 395's and now a cool tuning screw thingy...what else did I miss while running saws and drinking beer?I had one on my bench when you were here. You could’ve played with it…
Seems it would be good on a milling saw?Lol I had to test em for a bit to see if they would pass the vibration test Kevin..been perfect so far even after chatter in rough bore cuts.
Chicken wings and strippers in the back room of the garage? So the tote of 395's and now a cool tuning screw thingy...what else did I miss while running saws and drinking beer?
I ran it for a tank on my hybrid and it stayed in place perfectlyWell the tricky part if its really tricky at all is the fitup into the carb screw so there's no slop..and then every model is a different length, and the rubber boot holes are different sizes. Anyhow I've ironed the bugs out from the prototype I sent Kevin a while back, no longer using surgical tubing on the shaft to get a snug fit, now I'm using shrink tube and its mobetta. And the shaft is threaded and the knob is also so the length can be adjusted to the particular saw.
The krinkle finish on those covers looks great! How does it do against gas/oil and the elements?
Its Mopar valve cover paint, so better then the industrial stuff for tractors. It will bubble up if there's a leak in a seam under it but wont crack or peel. The krinkle finish on those covers looks great! How does it do against gas/oil and the elements?
