The stuff Dave used in the video is actually silver solder, but they call it silver brazing rod also. It’s quite a bit more expensive but it works well with stainless or when using dissimilar metals. What Nick pictured is common flux coated brazing rod. It’s what I use most of the time, unless I’m working on stainless. The bronze rod actually allows you to fill slightly larger gaps if you can control your heat
It’s worth noting that the 45% alloy does have a smaller melting range than 15%.
Once you’ve gotten a good base coat of 45% on mild or stainless steel, you can switch to 15% and fill like you described.
The wider melting range and some good heat control make things possible that most wouldn’t attempt.

I haven’t tried the paste flux like you showed. Is it much different than using the dry powdered stuff?

Do u use just a map gas torch with ur flux coated brazing rod? What diameter do u find best? I wondered if one of those lil pen torches would come in handy for more pin point heating?

Control is the part that is most important like Dave said in the video. If ur too hot that stuff will run everywhere, so ive been told:D

I use oxy/ace with a small gas welding tip to control it a little bit better

I like to soak those clutches in Mean green or Awsome for a day or two. Sometimes they look brand new coming out.
She got the mean green scrubbing in the parts washer already, this one has a lil patina to
her:D the new mean green is not half as good as the old stuff i feel. And it seems to corrode parts if u leave them in there. I need to try the Awesome cleaner.
