That's pretty cool I love working on those old Cat engines. I have many years rebuilding those 3406B,C &E engines .

Let me know if you have any fuel pump questions or timing advance questions.

Thank you very much I will be reaching out to you at some point

I usually work on Stihl saws and am most familiar with them so this time I decided to try a Husqvarna 350 that the owner said just quit on him while sawing and wouldn't start again. Checking the saw I noticed it didn't have much compression so I'm gonna try a fairly complete rebuild...It didn't appear to have an air leak but I'm gonna tear down and reseal the bottom end anyway...It already had the intake boot upgraded but I bought a new boot for it anyway...

Well wishes on the rebuild. I am told to buy a bottle of blue lock tite when working on these.
At least a Hoosky guy said so.

Not sure when it’ll be on the bench, probably over the Christmas holidays will be my Solo 110cc Twin.
I found one of the 4 mounting lugs for the flywheel side engine cover broken off while performing another repair. That dang near ruined my day. Wasn’t sure what to search for but eventually found what you see below along for the reason it requires replacement.
It’s a brandy new 110cc crankcase. I acquired it from a friend in Germany and it just got here today.

350’s with the removable transfer cap cylinder have pretty low compression stock because of the dished piston. If it’s not scored/worn looking it’s most likely fine. There is so many places for those saws to leak it’s not even funny lol. But once they are sealed good, they are good saws.

Not so lucky on this one. It has a scored (dished) piston and the ring is stuck. I didn't notice any leaking around the crank but I'll seal it up again since I have it apart so far. Right now it's soaking in Simple Green for a little while. I imagine the owner ran it with a dull chain and got it hot...

I was working on this saw today when my wife suggested I head over to the museum as the building next door was on fire....

The actual building on fire was three doors down but I still spent most of the day in the vicinity just in case...

I did get back to home in time to put this one back together. Owner said it had been setting for 6 years and he wanted to make sure it was ready to go.

I could use your help guys...
Got my hands on an old Craftsman 5hp chipper / shredder.
Got the motor running real good.
After testing I discovered the chipper / shredder sucked...
Pulled it apart and found all original part inside warn out.

Blades were not an issue to sharpen. Lots of info on the web.
The flailers have me stumped.

What should be sharpened?
Should they be square on the thin sides? These seem to have a light grove.
Should the ends be sharpened similar to a tooth on a chainsaw chain?
What can I do to make this as good as new Or better?

Thanks!!

Finished up the repair to the Solo Rex handle bar mount. I fabricated the aluminum wedge, installed (4) #6 helicoils . Two on top and two in the bottom boss where the bar mounts there. The rear screw on top was installed at a slight angle to take advantage of a thick part in the casting. Wrangled the handlebar to an almost straight position and decided to take a break. image.jpgimage.jpg
