Automatic decompression valve. When you depress the button that sets (holds) fast idle, the button itself push’s on this lever that depresses the spring loaded valve. Seems like a good idea to me, probably commonplace too, but it’s the first I’ve seen. BFCE2D8E-09B2-45CF-B619-81B6B551B7F4.jpegD8752010-F3B4-4F1D-83A9-E073771101F8.jpeg

Yep, wire nuts.
Not even the right nuts for the wire size.
Yes they are easy to redo and you will have to redo them.
Do it right the first time and forget it is a better plan.

Dunk the trailer in saltwater once then a few months later you are fixing them again.
The real danger in that wiring is when an accident happens and someone is hurt.
Someone rearended a boat on the hiway, the lights were not working and the boat owner had fixed the wiring much the same way.
The boat owner was found liable for the accident, hospital bills, etc.

Good crimps and heatshrink works. Get a good crimp tool also.

I tried for years to teach people the right way now i just tell them to park it over by my boat and i will get to it soon with a bill.

Last month i got an almost new 2500 gph bilge pump.
Guy said it was broke and he didnt want to replace it himself again. Brought a new pump with the boat over to me.
I looked at the boat then called him telling him that it may not be a bad pump. He told me it WAS
the pump and to replace it.
So i tightened up the wire nuts he used to see if it was the pump. Pump Worked fine.
I pulled the pump replaced it and used good crimps/heatshrink like he told me to.
His bill reflected his attitude and how much i respect his law degree.
I don't do this for a living and would not have even worked on his boat if his brother was not such a good friend of mine.
Brother said i should of charged more.

It is amusing to look at some of the work these backyard mechanics do.

I like to do a job once and it better stay fixed.

A massive "oh f***" moment here, ptu / transfer case finally let go on my 06 Escape Hybrid on my way home but I made it home ok. Determining the best course of action at the moment for replacement. Decided to go with a reman one. Currently sounds like an ice crusher.

FYI, my wood trailer will NEVER see Salt Water and my truck tells me if the lights are not working correctly.

I'll let ya know when it fails … but I think it is going to be a long time! It may even out last the trailer.

Already replaced springs and tires once … upgraded to radial tires and 3 leaf springs.

I had one of them go bad from sitting for 1-2 years with gas that had a lot of stabilizer stuff in it. They seem designed to go bad. I've seen a chainsaw fire up after sitting 15yrs with the same old gas.

Your very close minded Mike.
Open up to new and better ways of doing things...
You might just like it...
