I think I'm gonna give it a shot. I'll try it first in a stock saw and then do the whole porting scenario. I don't expect much though.

Looks like they actually cupped the leading edge. I wonder if it helps with the transfers. Or if they were trying to balance it better.

Might make for interesting findings. Probably make zero difference. Could help some. Might make a 272 into a gals best friend on a lonely night. Or possibly smooth it out?????

Curious to hear what you find out.

Walbro 199a. The saw had some bad idle issues. Almost acted like a tank vent that wasn’t working. Found the carb had the infamous blue diaphragm. Rebuilt the carb with the tan diaphragm and added a 1/8” hole to the top cover. Sorry I didn’t get a picture of the hole for you fappers47B8EE5D-FD16-4E8A-BED4-979B9C53B0AC.jpegDD628687-36F7-4124-B523-8F35EF09D290.jpeg

I'm going to be using a 199 on my 357 build, I'll do those mods to it as well.

Little bit more progress on the 357 build. Tank and carb floor installed, new fuel line and filter installed. Top end will be going on this week but I want to measure squish with and without the gasket first. KIMG1035.JPG KIMG1036.JPG KIMG1037.JPG

It was a smashed saw Mike, that had maybe 10-12 hours on it. The lower rear PTO side mount area was broken off of the crankcase but Mr. Carr was able to
weld it all back together and of course he did an excellent job on it (I threw some gray primer on it). Frank Bierce was able to get me a tank, carburetor, and clutch cover for it.

We got lucky where that one broke, it also turns out the new stihl cases weld nicely!

Is it possible they added that weight to the counter weights to compensate for a larger (heavier) piston?

Could be Mike - The top end was missing when I got the saw so I have no idea what they had going on. I do know the crankcase had a lot of grinding on it. They'd opened
up the mixing area quite a bit and inside the mounting area it looked like they had matched the lower transfer windows in the cylinder after dropping the lower transfers
to the base. I saw one like that many years ago that had a Stihl 064 piston in it.
