Welp....motor runs a treat. Made 2 passes .... 60 ft. Belt ate itself. To be expected. But it won't reverse either....juSt get rubber smoke. LifteD it off ground. Smoke. Crankcase ...Main pulley is bound up and won't turn.

And yes ....I did full with crankcase oil because it was empty.

Not understanding clearly. Is it the motor that locked up? Or the gear/ drive box? Could the rubber reversing wheel be out of adjustment and not applying proper pressure? I can go out and look at mine or get you pics if it helps you figure out what's up with yours. I hope it's nothing serious.

its the main gearbox pulley that appears to be locked. it won't drive forward with the belt, and the rubber wheel just smokes when applied for reverse...

I only put a quart of gear oil in, maybe that had something to do with it. if it was really empty, lord knows what was in there. I'll likely end up taking the crankcase apart and seeing whats what. at least I'll get the motor off and have a direct access to the main pulley.

These showed up today, no room on the bench so they are on the floor. McCulloch PM555, McCulloch PM10-10, Poulan 2150, and Poulan Pro 295.

The McCullochs came out of a barn, the Poulans look like they've been run hard and put away filthy for several years. I expect I will need to find a new clutch cover for the 2150.

Echo ES-1000 blower/shredder. Customer decided to just buy a new one and gave it to me to do whatever I want with it. My dad needs a blower so I'm getting it running for him. New fuel lines, tank vent, fuel and air filters, carb kit.

"Well there's your problem."

Runs pretty good.

Very nice Joe - that was one of the first automotive carburetors I ever worked on.

I got a nasty, dirty Jonsereds 111S on the bench today that I'm going through for a member. It needs new seals, piston and rings, and a fuel system.

The old-timer I got this from said he bought it new in the 70's and used it for 28 years milling and cutting firewood. As dirty as it is, I believe it. He sold it
to me for $50 because none of the local saw shops would even look at it.

It's had a few repairs over the years. Someone did a decent job of welding up the bar pad. The owner was a logger and a carpenter and he told me
he climbed and topped a 6' Doug Fir in 1981 with this saw when he was a hook tender for Whitaker Logging.

Played with a Solo 680 I got from a buddy. He said it was scored. Was hoping I could salvage the cylinder.

Not quite done here...but it cleaned up really nicely

a bit of an odd plastic whiskery protrusion in the intake block.

Here is a pic of the piston...cylinder was pretty rough too.

No base gasket material on hand, and base gasket was completely destroyed...couldn’t make a template that way...figured I’d see where a gasket delete would put me. Turned out to be a head slapper. So, I made a mandrel to cut the band

Yeah the two piston candidates I found for the 680 are either 064 or big bore 372. I'm gonna try one with a BB372 and see how that works.
