Got the 880 back this afternoon, letting it mingle with the new addition overnight. The new one has apparently mingled with a 880 once already

So, my nephew stopped by yesterday with one of his Jred 2172's. He said "it made a funny noise, quit, and I think it's blown up". It torn it down last night and it looks like the ground broke off the spark plug and made it's way down the side of the piston. Luckily the crank is okay, but the PTO side bearing had some junk in it. The cylinder had a small chip on the transfer port, but I was able to grind that smooth. I had some of the parts here and ordered a new Meteor piston and gasket kit from @Definitive Dave . At least this one was interesting...................

Wondering, does this exhaust insert have to stay? Kinda prevents much grind work.


Widening the intake and “trying” to square it up a little.

Oh wow a 67'...what's the details?

Yes 67' she's rough...
Originally a 289 car but not sure what's actually in it yet.
Told it's a "cougar" motor... ??
Has an Edelbrock intake but a lot is missing... Carb doesn't appear to ever had fuel through it.

Nice! Up here in Vermont you don't have to cut out floor pans, they just disappear.....................

Gladly voided my warranty today... I've only run three or four tanks of gas through it and there was browning on the side of the piston... They had it tuned too lean straight from the store.... Least I'm learnin a few things before it's too late for another saw....

I grew up in upstate NY (Rochester) so I know all too well about that.

My neighbor has a 58 f-100 sitting next to his barn that has been there for decades that has less rust than a 10 yr old daily driver from up there.

For next time, you don't have to remove those two circular parts to be able to defeat the limiters. Just drill out the black 'tits' through the top, that stick down in your second picture. Takes the limiter part out of order, but you can still get a small flat head screwdriver in to tune.

This pickup was a 1979. Picture was taken in 1998. It was still on the road at this point with only 45,000 miles and always garaged. I bought it for the engine and the interior. (still the only vehicle I've ever bought from a dealer). I drove it home 25 miles and thought the seat bolts were loose. I peeled the floor covering back and found the front cab mounts "gone". The remaining piece of the floor crumbled when I touched it.
