Ahhh back to where I should be with interesting to me "off beat" old chainsaws....and I DIDN'T get sucked into that stupid "Ding Thread! That clone g372XT is getting "tested" by tractor, did a single digit day in the mud bucking frozen Maple. Ran pretty good! FINALLY moving that saw in the right direction! It seems to have responded really well to the typical "Anti - X-Torq" ( 372ATX from now on ) mods and OEM ignition. It's Carb seems to work pretty well actually. A surprise, A sick 575 and wasted 288 to mix in. Not certain either will be video material. Both need the cases split & bearings and seals. ALL 4 fun! Need more of those type of projects I think. Maybe the 298 I have? "

Testing out service tools from Husky. With 572 Husqvarna introduced service tools for her, one of the tools is bearing mounting kit. They introduced the same consept for the 550 Mark II and that's what I bought, the kit is nice and all that stuff, but I've always belived in the old fashion way, ie heat.



My test candidate was a 550 mark I with a ruined case:


Why I picked mark I is because it has a seperate flywheel seal, also a crank with tight tolerances, magnesium shaving is a disaster for that model, in general for every model with a seperate seal. I stopped half way because I wanted to check if.........

I have built and used tool accessory "bushings" to my crank "jacks" case assembly system that squeeze bearings in. Did that couple of years back, not certain I even will offer them. Why? Used bushings to center and keep things square. They work, but when used cold you can still see the surface marks on the bearing pockets when I heated and removed those bearings to check the results. Add 100 degree's of heat and the wipe marks goes away. So do the chances of peeling little bits of magnesium. So at that point why not just use enough heat and drop them in? No strain or pain, the answer is the cage and seals on the "integral" bearings I'm afraid. Same with the 576's...I play a game of using the least amount of heat possible and then cool as fast as possible. May not matter....just a feeling, heat and poly anything don't mix well. And of course that begs the larger question doesn't it.

Well started off today with a full rebuild on a 359, then a 365xtorq, and last up today is a 372 being converted to an OE after being rebuilt/ ported before shipping to Ireland.

Finally feeling better after a week of in bed dealing with an upper respiratory infection I was able to get out to the garage today and start reassembling a customer's Homelite 330 I'm doing an intake boot on. Wasn't much left of the old boot. Installing new hoses while it's apart too.
