I have never, ever cut with a dull chain and I do not abuse my equipment. I'll grab some photos when I can. I have posted them already on this issue.
If you like your friends, get the saws back and change out the plastic to a metal clamp. I do not use the saw just for this very reason. Piston and cylinder were perfect. Saw ran very well when I did run it...
I never said you ran it with a dull chain or that you abuse equipment, but that from what I've seen they go bad from running a dull chain.
Did it die on you?
Jeff realize I'm sharing my experience, it doesn't make yours not true, and your doesn't make mine false either:beer-toast1:.

I hear you.
Things got lost in the text.
The saw still runs well. I just won't use it until I get that metal clamp on it...
Bad juju to blow up a saw that you know has a potential issue.

All the one I have gotten that had the top end toasted the clamps were loose....
All the ones I have gotten that were not toasted the clamps were not loose....
It would not surprise me if the top end meltdowns cause the clamps to lose their tension.

That's what I believe happens.
I've ran them hard on saws with cats and never had one come loose, after all I read I would have thought they should have burned up on the first tank even if they were tight lol.

I'd still like to see pictures of the saw/intake.
