It does look like the intake valve maybe kissed the piston. Small mark on the intake edge. May have to pop them out quick too and make sure ther not bent.
It was the exhaust rocker arm that broke.

Looks like the exhaust may have hit too, I put solvent in the port to check for leaks at the valve seat, I would check both they need to hold solvent and you should be able to blow compressed air at the valves and not see bubbles in the port, I wound bet the intake is bent and probably the exhaust too

just as an FYI I test brand new heads and machine shop fresh head too, it amazing how many of them leak!!

Yes, thanks.

Would you care to post timing numbers?
Finish it up and double checked the numbers 187° exhaust and 126° transfers, and .043 squish, it’s a mid-range port, should have good bottom end and decent over-rev, I like up to 190° and 130° max for and all around powerband. He is heavier and rides tight trails, I think this will smoke most cr500’s and be lighter, it going int an 02 cr chassis

got the piston mods done, I drill holes to lube the bridge and edge of the exhaust port between the sub exhausts, the piston comes with marks to drill, but the port is too wide to work with there index makes so I put them were needed, I also modify the boost window to make it more directional. Also put oil holes inline with the ring stops, I notice wear there on these big bores so I add them8FF74D3F-F5A9-4055-BEE0-772CB1C3BEB4.jpeg2C3F4C87-FD62-4BEB-95AE-BEE12D2114AD.jpeghere is a stock piston next to the big bore5615D632-E1C8-4178-90CD-8FF653943321.jpeg

455 rancher x torq getting some love. New carb, fuel filter, purge bulb, spark plug, and a deep cleaning. New carb, bulb and filter are done. Need to clean, reassemble and test in the next day or two.

Where should I start out with the carb needles? It's an aftermarket carb.

If it is an AM Chinese carb, I have experienced a bit different. They do not usually have the H-1 L-1 presets. They are usually more. Based on a Stihl 036 AM Carb.

It is. Will see where it's set at out of the box and go from there.

I think my L was 1.5 turns out and H was almost 2.5 turns out on the AM Definitive Dave carb.
