Fresh off the bench, stihl 039 brought to me in a bucket disassembled with a busted oil tank. Different housing from a blown 029 plus a set of crank seals, fuel line, filter and rebuild on carb. Few hours of cleaning and assembly work and nice running 039 with a muffler mod and timing bump.

Yep, just pull it out on the right side, the rivet is to swing the rubber piece to the side...it doesn't come off.

These 361 jugs are really very different.

Check out the difference in the intake port. The open port jug is the smaller one.

I'm very curious to hear your feedback on the characteristics of the open port vs closed port.

The open port head is off a new in box OEM saw. One other jug is going to a buddy, and the third is going on a saw I’ll sell here I guess.

So, I’ll probably build the for sale saw and then use that as the test mule so I don’t ruin the looks of the NIB saw. Then I will toss the Open port back on it when it’s headed home.

I’m also wondering how the open vs closed will respond to other mods, like an 044 boot and carb.
