Kinda sorta bend it in the middle and they push right in. FWIW I have the same WTF moment with the Stihl setup.

Thanks I'll have to give that a try. Yeah see I usually don't have any problems with the stihl's.

This is a new saw and has the open port MS341 jug on it. Odd.

I bet the open port has a nice flat torque curve. Probably not as peppy as the closed port though. Be interesting to see what kind of gains you’d get from porting it.

Finished assembling another 044 hybrid. This one isn’t just inbred it’s also a crossbreed with the heart of a hooskie. Hopefully test run it on Tuesday. We’re headed to the cottage for the long weekend

Rebuilt a 200t and all was well for almost a full tank then it locked tight. Found what I thought was a ring location pin but it wasn’t then I figured lover rod or wrist pin bearing. Wasn’t the wrist pin bearing and I didn’t see any missing needle bearing chunks on the lower rod bearing so can’t find where this is from. Old piston had both location pins still and besides that I split cases completely down cleaned in my parts washer, rinsed them off and dried. Got all new bearings and seals then built back up without a base gasket. Measured squish at 22 thousandths without the gasket. Also has a brand new carb but I can’t think of anything the carb could have dumped into the engine. Anything I missed?

Picked up a 2018 362. I’m looking forward to trying it out. Blew off the dirt, removed lots of sap and threw a bar on it.

I’m guessing yes. The saw is brand new and I don’t think the owner would want a used jug on it.

Spoke to @Definitive Dave who told me that the replacement OEM jugs for the 361 are now all open port, no closed are made.

I believe that the replacement OEM MS260 Jug has gone the same way.

This saw is 100% MS361 and my understanding is that this jug came on the MS341.

I’ve got 3 jugs out to port, so I plan on doing them the same way and comparing the open to closed port jugs for performance.

I’m not even sure if I should use the same numbers. I may try to CC the transfer areas in both to see what I am dealing with. The open transfers do visually appear to have a lot less volume than the closed, but looks can be deceiving.

Doesn’t the 200T use roller bearings instead of ball bearings?

Did you use oem bearings when you redid the saw? I’d check there.

Doc, This is pretty interesting. Same bore? Where did the saw come from? I’ve never seen one of those cylinders. Where was this saw manufactured? First digit of the SN

I know my nephew is proud of his 55 Husky because it is a rare closed port.

My understanding is they have good low end grunt but less top end. The only one I ever did was a 029/039 conversion. It ran OK. but I was not overly impressed. But the guy that has it likes it and still uses it.

Yes all new oem roller bearings but the rollers are substantially larger than what I found somewhere between 3/16 and 1/4”. Still goin to pull it down completely and flush/inspect it again before rebuilding and putting back together. It’s a shame it because it ran great up till this happened. Did just a little intake and exhaust port cleaning and widening.
