90% of this ready to go. Sent a bunch of texts out today. “Hey slacker... come pick up your “stuff”. Headed out of town for the week of the 4th. I’m ready for a little R&R

I just picked up this very tired Husqvarna 50. Lightly pulling on it feels like it has been put together without a piston ring. It may be wore slam out, but it should be worth the $25 I paid for it.KIMG0775.JPG 15618325372121086689754.jpg

*****Up Date*****

Everything looks to be in good shape except the piston and ring. Cylinder cleaned up 44mm bore, bearings feel good coil puts out.....no air filter....cause of death, homicide.

Hmmm. I remember the 266 had a very different intake tract than a 272. Not so sure on the 268.

Limited hoosky knowledge. You probably know what you need already.

I know a 272 jug fits under that hood.

The 266 is the odd duck, need to have the intake and fasteners from the 268 or 272 for it to work.

266 left, old 61? center, 268/272 right

268 and 272 share the same intake bud. The 272 was a factory BB 268 XP.

I've run the 2 series since the 80s
Mocked up this don't have a 266 cylinder apart to show the young guy's the difference.20190630_185516.jpg
This is a 268 setup on a 266 bottom end.
The 266 has a two piece ignition the 268/272
One piece.
The top covers aren't interchangeable unless you butcher them.
Adding holes the fasteners are in a different location 20190630_190514.jpgbad crank in a 268 in the other bottom end.
built this was immaculate 24x4ft lifetime warranty advantech 3/4 plywood bench this morning.
I get free sheets this size.
Lifetime waterproof flooring makes a good surface.

I did only one 266 to 272 jug conversion. What I found was:

266 had odd intake. The nylon intake manifold was bolted to the jug, then the carb/elbow bolted to the manifold. The 272 setup had through bolts that ended in the jug and went through the entire assembly (like the 262XP does).

In my case, the top cover fit fine. It kissed the plug boot, because the plug angle on the 272 jug was more vertical than on the 266 jug. But it did fit.

The metal brake flag cover didn’t fit with a decomp. The end user wanted one, so it got switched over to the Nylon flag.

Moooo!

I just happen to have a 266 and 272 jug on the bench right now and the height is very similar the 272 being just a frogs hair shorter. A 630 Jonsered is like a 266 and quite a few 266 jugs found their way in those saws. No reason a 630 cylinder couldn't find its way into a Husqvarna 61 or something. They look pretty neat to me, and might have to mess with one some day.
