That turned out really nice!

Dang Jeff, you don't see 266 with no chain rash very often, beautiful build

Thanks fellas, I was surprised at how well it cleaned up once I started building it. Just had her out back for the maiden voyage and just could not believe how well it runs, she pulls hard for 66cc's.

They're a hot rod saw that doesn't get a lot of attention.

Yesterday's 039 engine assembly...take two.

Built this saw for a local kid that managed to blow it up already. Apparently they don't like turning 15 grand for extended periods. Lol

Using a Cross cylinder this go round. We'll see how it holds up.

Did you use the pop up?

New plug for the 795L. Thinking about putting an ignition module in it.

Also pondering about the DSP valve. (Compression Relief Valve). The saw originally had one, but it has been removed by a previous owner and replaced with a bolt to plug the ports. I would like to install one to ease the cranking. I have been searching on ebay for one but no luck. McCulloch part number is 69877. Looks like the same one on the 125's. Might have to crank up one of the lathes and make one.

How in the hell does one get this damned oil pump drive gear off of a Husqy 55?!?!? I’ve tried heat, freezing it, been getting a steady dose of lube for 2 days... I separated the cases with the seal still in between then tore the seal aprt to get more room. I have used 3 different pullers and haven’t gotten even a BUDGE out of it. I’m afraid to try to drive it down more to get it moving and lose what little space is there.

For future reference, when disassembling the cases, if you use the Husqvarna type case splitter(big C clamp looking thingy) on the 51/55's it will pull the crank right out clean in one shot. Then press out the bearing from the case half.
I use the pipe adapter puller trick when changing the seal from the outside only.

Do you have spark? If you do don’t bother with a module. Many have had issues with modules on Macs. If your saw has the 5° advanced flywhee,l and you add the chip it will be extremely difficult to start, if it doesn’t the trick to making the modules last is mounting away from heat and have least 6” of wire.

On the dsp, valve, they are difficult to find, and a bad design, if the muffler comes loose they can fall out! You can make one on the lathe they are super simple, do you have the lever on the saw? I believe they are different for the 797 and cp125 but similar in design

Lol. Is that for the saw you were fixing for the older gentleman?

It is. There are a couple parts I haven’t been able to locate, so I guess they won’t be replaced. Its missing the small, carb box side inlet filter and cover. Its not really a big deal as it doesn’t affect performance.

I saw one of those filter covers on eBay in red not long ago.

Got good spark and it runs fine. Ordered up 6 plugs and put one in last night just for grins. I was cutting with the saw last week. The plug that came with the saw had a washer instead of the tapered seat as called for originally. So I ordered the 6 new plugs with tapered seat.

Thanks for the heads up on the module. Spark is good so I do not really need one.

Yea, that is a bad design on the DSP. My saw has been botched, the DSP hole was threaded 5/16-18. All the linkage is there. My guess is a prior owner got tired of fooling with the valve and omitted it. If the valve was not under the cover I would replace it with a push button type.

Maybe I do not need the valve, I think the earlier 790's do not have one. Just a strong foot to hold the saw down while starting!
