@p61 western...Mike, here's the pellets I've used so far. Actually haven't even used Traeger pellets as of yet. I did a ton of reading on smoking forums, Amazon reviews, etc and felt pretty comfortable buying 40lb bags of the following:
Cookinpellets.com Perfect Mix (mix of hickory/cherry/hard maple/apple)
Cookinpellets.com 100% Hickory (100 % hickory with no other mix or fillers)
Rec Tec Grills Ultimate Blend (mix of red oak/white oak/hickory)
Louisianna Grills Competition Blend (mix of cherry/hickory/maple)
Louisianna Grills New England Apple (mix of apple/maple)
Mike, they're all damn good pellets, some burn a little hotter than others, but I've had good success with all so far. If I had to pick one right now that kinda stood above taste-wise, probably be the Louisianna Grills New England Apple (apple and maple mix). It seems the Louisianna Grills bags I've used, seem to have a little more shake/dust in the bottom of the 40lb bags in relation to the others. I sift the bottoms of the Louisianna Grills bags through a kitchen strainer/colander and let the dust go in the yard.
I've got Amazon Prime, so you can't beat the free two-day ship on these if you order any. It'll get a little pricey I'm sure having to pay shipping everytime on 80-160 lbs of pellets. If you don't have Amazon Prime, might be worth looking into as a one-shot purchase to get Prime...in relation to ship charges that'll certainly add up in the long run.
And I'll try some Traeger mfg pellets as well as others at some point...but still have about 250 lbs of the above pellets to get through first. Hope this helps you buddy.
