Mike, I'll holler at you tomorrow about the pellets and whatnot. Daughter dropped by a little while ago and we're kicking back watching a movie. Have a good evening buddy.
You have a good evening with your daughter, and I will catch up with ya tomorrow Jason.

Kevin mentioned in a post you used the same temp probe setup at the TN GTG as the ones I've got...the ThermoPro TP-20.

...and morning to ya.
Good morning Jason, how are you doing?

@p61 western...Mike, here's the pellets I've used so far. Actually haven't even used Traeger pellets as of yet. I did a ton of reading on smoking forums, Amazon reviews, etc and felt pretty comfortable buying 40lb bags of the following:

Cookinpellets.com Perfect Mix (mix of hickory/cherry/hard maple/apple)

Cookinpellets.com 100% Hickory (100 % hickory with no other mix or fillers)

Rec Tec Grills Ultimate Blend (mix of red oak/white oak/hickory)

Louisianna Grills Competition Blend (mix of cherry/hickory/maple)

Louisianna Grills New England Apple (mix of apple/maple)

Mike, they're all damn good pellets, some burn a little hotter than others, but I've had good success with all so far. If I had to pick one right now that kinda stood above taste-wise, probably be the Louisianna Grills New England Apple (apple and maple mix). It seems the Louisianna Grills bags I've used, seem to have a little more shake/dust in the bottom of the 40lb bags in relation to the others. I sift the bottoms of the Louisianna Grills bags through a kitchen strainer/colander and let the dust go in the yard.

I've got Amazon Prime, so you can't beat the free two-day ship on these if you order any. It'll get a little pricey I'm sure having to pay shipping everytime on 80-160 lbs of pellets. If you don't have Amazon Prime, might be worth looking into as a one-shot purchase to get Prime...in relation to ship charges that'll certainly add up in the long run.

And I'll try some Traeger mfg pellets as well as others at some point...but still have about 250 lbs of the above pellets to get through first. Hope this helps you buddy.

Thank you very much for all the info Jason. I have Amazon prime, so I will be looking to find these that you mentioned on Amazon. So far I bought three bags of Traeger pellets. I got Apple, hickory, and cherry. I used some Apple yesterday. Today I will probably use some hickory. The book that came with the grill is great for a rookie like myself.

Yeh, that little Traeger Everyday Cookbook that comes with the smokers has some pretty good recipes in it. Go to Traeger's site, check out the recipe section...you'll be amazed at the recipes and pics there. Tons of recipes broken down into categories; beef, pork, poultry, seafood, etc, etc. The pics alone will have ya licking the damn laptop, computer, or IPad screen.

Very sorry to hear about your sister. Very thankful also that you are able to help her. I'll be praying for a good recovery for her. (By the way, nice charcoal stash under the bench!)
Hope your weekend finishes well. Keep looking up.
Thank you man for the encouraging words concerning my sister. I hope she's over this quickly and back to a normal routine.

@p61 western...Mike, here's a shot of the controller I've got on the Pro 34. You'll notice the two probe jacks bottom left that feed through the end smoking chamber, self-sealing little balloon valve. The probes (about 40" I believe) are in the ziploc sitting on the optional front folding shelf. You can see the bottom optional shelf as well. Wasn't really needing it, but it is convenient to just chunk your pellet bags down there I suppose...probably bought the bottom shelf more for tying the four legs together, giving them more stability/integrity, than anything else.

I got the optional front folding shelf yesterday, and after seeing yours with the bottom shelf I would like to get that as well. I wonder if I could buy the better controller and put it on my grill.

Good deal on the front folding shelf Mike. The bottom shelf certainly ties the legs together and serves its purpose as well. Absolutely you can get the newer, updated controller with the two meat probes like mine. It's basically plug and play...swap the color-coded wires, temp wire, come with with male/female connector ends already terminated, in lieu of butt splicing,..and you're set.

Have you tried doing any baking with it yet? I'm curious as to how well they work for baking. I'm going to do some ribs today, I will report back on how that goes. I hope your having a good day Jason.

Had to run to my sisters house for a few...haven't tried any baking as of yet Mike. Did crank it WFO and grilled/seared some t-bones a few weeks ago. They turned out damn good.

I'm wayyy behind the power curve fellas...hell with smoking, went straight to 300...then I'll dial his ass down. Didn't have time after going to my sisters house to do this like I wanted. Lemon and pepper on most, Lawhorns seasoning on the rest. Helluva lot of chicken for one person, me, ain't it? I'll nail half of it tonight, got some for lunch and dinner tomorrow. I can't get enough lemon and pepper, garlic and pepper at times, on yard bird. I'd cake it a 1/4" thick if I could get it to stick.
