I tried the Red Armor and it ran great. However, it left a varnish on my BR800 piston crown @ 50:1.

How long did you run it in the blower and what did you run in the blower prior

Definitely mild compared to most. Saber smells more racey to me. Dominator doesn’t really smell like anything. So that’s good

Did you ever do a shot of thaber and then wed awmor to see which one tastes better ?

It stinks, gives me burning nostrils and headaches.
Also, it creates a hard shiny black glaze and I don't like that.

Yes sir, this one burns really clean @ 32:1 compared to Castrol 2T racing.

Will see how she will perform in the XS beauty once all snow melts.

Oils that burn cleanly often dont smell much

Both are made by Lubrication Technologies. The question is whether they are the same oil. I am having trouble finding the correct SDS sheet for Castrol to compare them. Interestingly, though, the Castrol JASO certificate number is suspiciously close to numbers held by Husqvarna. Maybe it is blue for a reason?

One thing I was not anticipating during my evaluations was the variation in gasoline. I have bought from three stations and one, a Valero with 91 octane, just stunk it up. I had not seen this piston varnish prior to the Red Armor, and I had been checking. It's definitely not a big deal. I will say that after a couple of gallons of Red Armor I switched back to Saber 50:1 and started seeing the piston getting cleaner. I got the guts to try 64:1 and the piston got drier and did not continue the cleaning. However, the engine ran better. Yes, I adjusted the carb and yes I know how. I tried 32:1 Schaeffer's boat oil and my sparkplug turned black all over. As part of my brief evaluations I have run k2, Motorex Crosspower 2t, and Super M Injector. Oh, and VP. There is another fellow participating with his br800 and we are comparing notes. Back to the gas... The 91 gas got poured into my truck and I'm back to 93 which is good. Interesting finds with these oils. I do intend to use Red Armor again since it is a great oil. I have checked the exhaust valve and all looks good. Honestly, the Saber, Motorex, Red Armor, and Super M Injector have run very well. Since I'm not sure of the gas used with the Red Armor it will be run again to check for a clean burn. I will venture into ashless after a short while. I see absolutely no reason to try Stihl Ultra. If for no other reason it smells bad. If Stihl did indeed design Ultra for 4 mix engines they need to update. The motorcycle oils and Saber are quite impressive. Would Dollar General oil work? Yep. I' also checking rocker arms for lubrication and my goodness the Saber is top notch. As someone with 18 years of professional experience it never dawned on me to try to find a great oil until I opened my fs100rx and saw black crud on my cam and that same day I got a good whiff of Ultra. So, it's all for entertainment, and that's all it is. From what I've seen so far, one oil, sll machines, one ratio, as a pro I'd choose Saber 50:1. As a homeowner, since harsh conditions are not so prevalent, since the Motorex seems to run the best by a very slight margin it might get the nod. BW, thanks for sharing your knowledge. Stihl has really ticked me off with their environmental push while at the same time pushing Congo batteries and fb Ultra.

All of the ashless oils stink because they use amine in their chemistry. The smell of rotting corpses is from mines so needless to say they smell strongly.

If I were you I would still go buy a two stroke...LOL

I actually got it for Christmas as a total surprise, so.... and because a relative works for a Stihl dealer I bought one from her .. but... my heart yearns for 2 strokes like you would not believe. I'm sitting in my living room looking at an Echo catalog. bwaaaaa! I've found Stihl to be very reliable with basically no repairs except routine stuff but 4-mix just lacks the pizazzz. I miss the wing ding ding so much I crank my old chainsaw just to hear that marvelous sound.

bwalker... when I was small child I remember the oil that we had for our Mercury outboard motors (my dad was a dealer) and it was Quicksilver Formula 2 which came in a large can ... about 30oz.. That stuff smelled good and now this ashless stuff really does stink. Even the Schaeffer's 7000 boat oil flat out stinks with this sickening ammonia like odor. I don't know when all this came to be. Do you? I know the Formula 50 did not smell great but at least it wasn't horrible. Is it the detergents or is it this trimethylolpropane that smells so bad when burned?
Edit starts here... and thanks for the warning about the smell because that actually matters to me. I'm one of these guys that puts forth an effort to sniff my exhaust every single time I burn mixed gas. I even have one of those mosquito candle buckets and I add Saber to it. I admit it.

Hey don't say that... Echo has a new pb-5810t blower that is using a type of 4-mix engine that "supposedly" has some sort of stratocharged design. That's what someone posted on BITOG. But, whether stratocharged or not it is a 4-mix type of engine. What's interesting to me is that Red Armor is the recommended oil and it is NOT ashless. So, don't be surprised if the 4 strokes become more popular. Time to stock up on 2 cycle oil and bury it with the kimchi.

I run Amsoil Saber at 40:1 in all my 2-cycle stuff. Most of my saws are ported, none are stock. It burns clean, lubricates well and so I will keep using it. Buy it a gallon at a time.

Well you could definitely do worse than Saber. I have used several oils and done a mini evaluation of them and Saber is right there at the top. And no, I am not in the Amsoil cult. Saber works and smells good plus it's not expensive at all.
