That tune looks bang on. This makes me want to switch to K2. I thought K2 was FD rated?
It was tuned on the rich side and the piston shows it. That particular engine has a cylinder head and compression ratio that's border line on pump gas. Even more so when puped, which mine was. When the main jet was tuned properly it would detonate under really heavy load on occassion. I fixed this by cooling things down via bumping the main up two sizes. It worked well, but really what it needed was a recut head. Yamaha actually changed the head design for the next model year to solve the problem.

Ran Dumonde this morning in my bg85. Dropped 400 rpm on the high side the way it was tuned for super tech synthetic at 50to1. Alil more fincky on the tuning. Not sure on the viscosity but pretty darn thick oil. Overall I think the supertech at 50to1 idled and ran better

Ring seating happens pretty darn quick or not at all.
Don't underestimate how hot those strato pistons run or the fact much less oil is going through those engines due to lower fuel consumption.
May need a gutted strato. My 241c ran darn good with the gutted strato

I have not had any issues with my 562xp, redmax 8000, or Husky 580.
Strato isn't a bad thing IMO. I do think k oil reccomendations need to catch up with the technology.

I agree that rings seat very quickly or not at all.
Once the peaks of the hone marks are gone, the rings will not break in no matter what you do. Which is why babying an engine when new is stupid. Especially one that uses ball and roller bearings which require no break in at all.

Well, I'm getting closer to running my new 681. Have plenty of Sten's full synthetic, as well as some KL200.

However, from what I've read here, I might be better off staying away from these until she's broken in. Thoughts on a break-in oil, and how long to run it?

My plan, unless I am edumucated different from you folks, is to run 25:1 for first couple tanks, per the owner's manual.

I would use what ever oil you plan to run at the ratio you plan to run it at. Warm the motor up to full temp, tune the carb, the load it as heavy as possible via noodling, etc. Do that for a few tanks and it's broken in.

With the dumonde it will be too lean if you leave it tuned for normal oils ,it needs to be fattened up some ,says so even on the dtp page that is why are down on power ,it is not getting enough fuel .

I bought a gallon of VP SEF to use in my edger, trimmer, and blower and mixed it with some HP2, and that is a new level of stink, the exhaust smells like rotten eggs. Not sure if its the fuel or the oil but damn it sure stinks.
