I had nothing but bad luck with any motul product i used.I once tried the 300v competition for my car,it burned within few miles and the engine was running a little hotter.
I tried the 300V (the motorcycle version of course)on my KTM's and didn't like it at all.It starting to loose its color within 500 klm where other oils maintained their color past 1000 klm.I was changing oil every 5000 klm on my 640 but with motul i felt 8 should do ot after 2000.
I had friends who swore by the motul oils so just my 2cents.

this 2T oil mixed at 32:1 with 93 octane non ethanol has worked great for me in all my equipment.
Good oil in normal carb saws, in AT saws and the 500i I've had some issues, it gets very tacky, which is good for protection when the engine sits awhile. My theory is the tackiness makes the solenoids act up. AT saws are definitely more sensitive to oil.

The best smelling oil I've ever used was Klotz Techniplate. Found a quart left over from my Dad in the garage (I bought my geandparent's house which he rented for many years). He used it in RC airplanes. Man that stuff smelled amazing. I was sad when I finally used it all up.

Not sure how "good" it is, but I'm tempted to buy a gallon and mix some up for nostalgia's sake.

Looking at the previous 2 posts (Andy and Egg) gives me my perspective ... I mix Amsoil Saber at 40:1. It is better oil than Stihl Oil, and mixed at a richer ratio that provides plenty of protection.

That said, 4 of my saws are M Tronic and the 40:1 ratio does not screw it up. 32:1 with some oils will.

Life is a balance.

My MS241 didn't mind my 100LL mixed at 40:1 with Hooskie HP+. Ran amazing.

Actually, out of all the saws I've sold off as of late, the MS241 is the most missed (followed closely by the MS361). The dark side of CAD is strong, and the orange saws are taking over....

Nice looking small block there! I'm sure conventional oil is OK if you change it often, but if it is a daily (or regular) driver, I would run synthetic.

The Mustang has Eagle Crank, Rods and Bearings so it is stroked from 4.6 to 4.9 liter.

All my "conventional" built motors back in the day were not bored or stroked, but I like Ford FE big blocks and had 390s, a 428 and 427 Ford Motor.

I currently run Mobil 1 0-40 in the Mustang, but when I had my older Stangs I usually went with 20-50 (and went with synthetic as soon as it was available). Used to use the Castrol.

I've been running Rotella 15w-40 in my 460EFI for years, normally T3 or what they call T4 I guess; which is a dino oil IIRC. My Ford Diesel tractor uses the same oil, so I buy it in 5gal buckets. Heck, they use the same oil filter too!

They were all our of T4, so I had to get T5 which is the synthetic blend. Heard rumors of oil shortages coming (tinfoil on), so I bought 10 gallons. I'll probably stick with the T5 or maybe move to T6 (full synthetic) once this is gone.

I'm curious what the 460 will look like when it's time to rebuild. She's at 213K right now and doesn't leak any oil, nor consumes very much (I run 5K between changes). Original plan was to Cummins swap it, but I think a stroked 460 would be fun, maybe add FI too... One can dream...

A ported 462 may change your opinions! I've got 2 of them! Powerhead is 13.2 lbs (same as a 562) and they have the clean air tech like the 241.

The 462 is the most impressive saw made right now, IMHO. I want one, but at $11-1200, I can't justify it.

Maybe I'll snag a lightly used one at some point. I just sold my 461 yesterday :(

I purchase my 10 mm 044 new in Dec 1992, I still have it, and it runs great. It was my ONLY saw for 18 years, most of which I heated by wood.

When you put it in that perspective, the price becomes not such a big deal.

As my Dad used to say "Quality will be remembered long after the price paid is forgotten". To tell you the truth, I remember I thought it was expensive, but I honestly don't remember what I paid for that 044, but I'll bet I can sell it for more than I paid for it!

You must be talking about a Husqvarna 262xp, Ks saw. Stock for stock it's hard for a new saw to meet it's performance. Referring to vehicle oil, only have run Rotella T6 5w-40 in my 06 Dirtymax and engine oil analysis showed all is good inside, 242,000 miles. Neighbors 07 only has 480,000 and tows 15,000+ (underground boring business), still going strong. He only changes oil after minder has been on for awhile.

I got bad UOAs from using Rotella in my 2006 Duramax. I switched to Mobil 1 and the UOAs have been excellent. I have a bypass oil filter and change once a year. UOAs always say to keep running and check back in 6 months. But I change it yearly. About 13 to 15k a year. But less lately.

Keep an eye on internals if you do. Milling creates enough heat to burn it but for firewood duty (w/ a good tune @ 40/1) R50 gummed up my stuff, bad.

I love the smell too!

Like a dummy, I sold a cherry 262xp; HDA87, KS jug, was mint. I just newer ran it, my ported 254s get used the most.

I'll bite. Given they are the same chassis, why the 254s over the 262?

I inherited my grandfather's 1989 254. It was a mess. At the time, I was a Stihl guy. Had a MS310, MS361, etc. Had the local Husqvarna/Stihl dealer bring it back to life, and the owner (a Husky guy) said, I bet you'll like that 254.

Well, he was right. I fell in love with it. I'm sure the nostalgia of using the same saw that my grandfather used for years to cut firewood for his house has something to do with it, but I was very surprised at the power it had compared to my larger 60cc saws.

Then I sent it to @huskihl, and wow. It was faster than my MS361, and lighter. So, it became my goto saw for firewood.

Picked up a super clean Rattler ported one as well, which is also a very nice saw. It's pretty, so gets used less, but I still love it.

Rattler top, Xtra Sausage bottom.

I run a 20" 3/8 full chisel on the XS and it just eats when buried ash, etc.

I'm not a Husky guy, but I have never heard that a 262 is lighter than a 361???

Anyone else with knowledge on this?

I've also never owned a 361, but I believe ported ones can be quite impressive.

My MOFO 360 is very light and strong.

Not sure on a 262, probably about the same.

The 254 is about a 1/2 pound lighter than a 361.
