They all wear on the load side but usually it takes a lot of hrs to get them to look like that unless it's a 661 think they come from the factory looking like that lol
Most saws are now doing that to some degree on the first tank, doesn't matter the fuel, oil or ratio. I believe it has something to do with the silicon content, and or the tolerances they have to use. I don't like to see it, but that's just way it is right now. Randy any thoughts?

IDK I dont work on new saws to know what's up but they have changed something in new saw's it seems to only happen at the start of a saw's life and then settle down not a long term issue.
I thought it may have been new EPA rules at the factory no oil in the mix on 1st test run it is odd whatever it is.

I really don't know exactly what's up, but that's what I'm seeing.

Had a two week old 395xp that I ported for a local tree removal operation on the bench for an after porting checkup. took a quick pic of the exhaust port, everything on that side looked perfect, the rings are starting to seat nicely. I also took the carb off, the intake side skirt is showing the normal self polishing, I see it on nearly every new saw. I like to polish the exhaust port myself, seems to prevent any buildup from sticking. I was told the saws burned five gallons of 2R @ 40:1 So far zero buildup in the port, it wasn't dripping with oil, but it wasn't dry, so there was some wash preventing buildup. I'll give it a regular tune now that it has some time on it, I'll check it out in a couple month if I can.

I've always assumed it was because of the size of the intake port in relation to the piston skirt. 390, 395, 661 all seem to be the worst for it. That Cross 066 top end has a little more width on the intake compared to a stock factory jug.....maybe that is the reason for the scuffing?

Over the years, I've stopped widening the intake on a lot of saws. I would rather leave a little performance on the table and build a saw that lasts.

That's interesting Randy, would you call the recipe you used for the Cross cylinders dramatic or not? Would you use the same numbers etc if you were porting a MS660 today?

Also, @Gentleman can you tell me when the Cross MMWS cylinder kits are going to be available again? They seem to have been out of stock for months now.
Every time I ask the factory tells me they are almost ready. I placed the order at the end of 2018. I'll ask again now.

I hope the delay is caused by a serious improvement in quality control, not that the last batch needed it from what I gathered, but one of them batches (661's?) did from what I heard.

You might have to place another order now, because if they do deliver, this shipment may not last long.

I'm curious as to what the compression reading is on that 2511 in your avitar. I can't quite make it out.

Dramatic? Not at all. But the timing numbers are great in those jugs. I used epoxy to create the roof of the exhaust port in the jug that was used for the mold, so it's a lot lower that where it would be in a jug I'd ported. The

That's very interesting! I guess you can just about do anything if you are getting them made to your specifications! Did you finish what you started saying above? The..........
