What oil is best? and what ratio?

When people ask why I don't run what saw maker says at 50:1 I said it wasn't that many years they said 40:1. And when they went to 50 ot was just an epa thing. The same saws were made each year with the same oils so why all of a sudden can they run at 50:1?

I had someone message me on a sale add i had posted locally once say Stihl recommends 50:1 and that I was doing harm to the saw with 40:1. I asked them if they ever work on saws and explained the reason.

I tell them 32:1 is for the bearings. Then I tell them it's your saw run what you want! I am too old and too tired and don't give a dang.

By the way. The stuff on my finger is corroded aluminum from the piston. She sat for just under 2 weeks after running a few tanks of that bird *s-word Lucas at 25:1. New meteor piston on a fresh port job. Zoom in on the picture of the exhaust port and you can see the witness mark from my finger

Where do you live!! That's terrible! I can buy 90 or 91 e free all over the place down here for like $2.70 a gallon right now. I can buy the VP racing fuel at a pump that's like 94 octane for a similar price your describing.

If you happen to be on Cape Cod for anything, Falmouth Airpark has Swift UL94, which is unleaded aviation fuel, very similar to the canned/alkylate fuel but much cheaper. 98 octane by road (R+M/2) rating, 94 by aviation/MON rating. Was $4.55/gal last time I was there. Beats the $16+/gal for canned. You can drive right over near the pumps, usually I don't see a soul around, but when I do they're happy to sell to anyone, and as long as the gate to the field is open (only closed once when I tried at 10:30pm) the pump is ready.



In NH, Hampton Airfield has a similar setup, but has regular 91 e-free mogas.

Out in New York state (Hudson valley mainly I think) the Stewart's Shops gas stations pretty much all have e-free 91. Think they have a few in VT, too. Maybe they'll keep moving east...not sure if MA/NH/CT/RI have any laws about not selling e-free fuel at regular stations, but obviously NY and VT don't.

Last time I was in NY, I brought along five, 5 gallon VP Fuel cans and filled them all up with that 91E Free fuel. I am on the last of it now. About 9 months old. I put fuel stabilizer in each can just to be safe. Runs great in my OPE!

They arent cryin .............. quite frankly, they just laugh at whatever wood I throw in front of them. Maybe its the oil, maybe its the chain, or the portin ............. ?????

Thank god for Stewart’s. Between that and VP Sef. No ethanol here. Cumberland Farms is really growing here too and I can’t believe they don’t have any free because their main competition is Stewarts so sometimes I go to Cumberland Farms to get some snacks and coffee before I go out because it’s cheaper and then have to go across the street to get my gas at Stewarts

The octane of avgas isnt tested by the MON test. They use an aviation specific rich/lean test. With that said it is basicly straight run Alkylate without lead where as 100LL is straight run with lead.
I work in a refinery and the unit I work in produces the olefin feedstock for the alkylation unit. Olefin is basicly propane type hydro carbons.
Irregardless the Swift product has plenty of octane for saw use.

I would only run ethanol blended fuel if I didnt have any alternative. Stabilizers really dont blunt the effects of ethanol all that well or at all.

Are all e free nozzles hooked to their own tank even when on the same pump? I have been told a person may have to run up to 5-6 gallons before they actually get the e free. Also being e free how often do ya think the underground tank gets filled? Most likely nobody is running it in their new cars made to run on lower octane. I'm just thinking out loud.

Around here my station with e free goes through it pretty fast. Not as fast as e fuel but there is a huge lake 4 miles or so from the station. They sell a lot!

You would be supprised how many people run premium.
Most of the efree pumps in my area have dedicated nozzles.

Testing is easy enough. Take a clear and straight sided jam jar, fill it about a 1/3 full of water, carefully mark the water height, and add about another 1/3 of gasoline. Shake well and let sit for 1/2 hour. If the water - gasoline line is above your mark you've got gasohol. You can get more scientific with a graduated laboratory cylinder, but you really just need a pass - fail for chainsaw use. Esso Supreme is good here, regular is about 5%, but we're pretty far from corn country.
