What oil is best? and what ratio?

Interesting tidbit that I just picked up, and I don't know if it's true or not.

The octane of avgas isnt tested by the MON test. They use an aviation specific rich/lean test. With that said it is basicly straight run Alkylate without lead where as 100LL is straight run with lead.
I work in a refinery and the unit I work in produces the olefin feedstock for the alkylation unit. Olefin is basicly propane type hydro carbons.
Irregardless the Swift product has plenty of octane for saw use.

I could be totally off, but Wikipedia told me that aviation lean and MON are the same up to 100 octane, and that the lesser of aviation lean/aviation rich is used as the rating (not an average), meaning for Swift's UL94 aviation rating=MON rating. Also the label on the pump says "AVGAS RATING, motor octane method, 94" but I don't know if that refers to MON or not.

Speaking of octane ratings, in the UK "regular" is labeled as 95, I didn't know until recently that they use RON so their labels are around 5 points higher than our AKI system...

Not all just at some stations and the high octane is the only one labeled.

Just the super is ethanol free. What I do not like is that there is not a separate pump. So all three grades come out of the same handle. Those that know more than I do you really think that it's possible to get a gallon or so from what ever was pumped previously? If so i'll just put 5 gallons in my car before I fill the can for the saws.

I guess it would be interesting to know how the inside of the pump works and how close to the pump it selects the gas desired to be pumped.

Good idea Matt. Next time up I will use that can 1st. I still put fuel stabilizer in each tank anyway. Lol.

If the switch was made closer to the pump then I wouldn’t think regular ethanol gas contamination would not be that bad ...if it happened more towards the actual in ground tank than yes a lot would get contaminated .I would think it would be closer to the actual pump?

I think it's the pump. Hoses/limes come there and the switching occurs there. Don't quote me but I think that's how it does.

What oil smells the best ? I tried some vp 40:1 premix and it smelled like a top fuel dragster, which i liked but dont trust it to really be 40:1 in my ported saws. I tried some generic semi sythetic oil mixed at 40:1 with e-free and it smelled like burning gear oil/dog crap.

If you want the best smell, buy some Klotz. It smells so good they make candles.

I would think not more than a half gallon. Cause you probably are going from about knee height to up there at either waist high or 8ft high of 3/4" hose, depending on where the hose comes out of the pump

That's not really accurate. No supprise given wikipedia. The Lean rating CAN correlate with the motor octane number, but in many cases it doesnt. Given the fact we are talking about an unleaded aviation fuel the chances of the lean number correlating with MON is probably less than average.
However, as it pertains to chain saws octane in and of its self is of minimal consequence.

Indeed, for the OPE I use it in it could be 87, I only care about the excellent stability and the reduced health effects of alkylate fuel (exhaust is virtually free of benzene, alkylbenzenes, and alkenes, which I'm told are bad by my cancer researcher friends.)

The EPA really cracked down on benzene in gasoline so in reality pump gas has little benzene in it these days.
Avgas of any sort stores very well. As in it will not produce varnish even after several years.
