Well I have been using Castrol activ 2T mineral oil at 40:1 for a while now and am really happy with it.
Bugger all smoke, inoffensive fumes, smells like..... oil and leaves a nice coat in the motor.
Seems to burn really clean as well.

I have also started using Castrol TTS at 50:1 in my wipper snipper and will likely try it at 40:1 in the saws over summer when cutting in hot conditions

Going to try some Castrol eventually.

Been running HP2 and really enjoy the smell and price of the stuff.

100% synthetic and it is blue so that means it is good right?!

Sent from my non internal combustion device.

Somebody had ask what my afm BB372 and my afm 066 piston tops look like in my poulans on kl200. Thinking @Moparmyway

This piston has 8-10 tanks of KL-200 through it since new. I like them set on the fat side for long firewood cuts.

No hurry here, its just wood and aint going nowhere :risas3:. Plus aint racing nobody. ;)

Looks fine to me, how was the crank? Wet or dry

40:1?

The cranks in these are just like a 371 but with coarse threads. So they fry the big end bearing just like the husky series does.
Have several I have bought site unseen and when I get them the big ends are blued and shot big end bearing on crank.

Big end failures are really rare in most other two strokes save Lawn Boy Duraforce motors. When it happens it's usually caused by dirt ingestion.

Good post. Staying focussed on what actually works well & performs best in your 2T tools is the biggest challenge for folks choosing oil. Staying away from the high marketing claims, spec sheets & others advise based on 'how they feel' about their choice in oil. I respect anyones oil choice even if its not mine so long as its 'their' choice based on 'their' experience with it compared to other oils they have tried. Modern high quality mineral oils deserve much better reputation than they get.

Definitely.

I have tried about 6 different oils and kept buying another till I fount what worked for me in the fuel I use in the conditions I use the tools in.

They either didn't protect well, smelt like a burning chemical factory, smoked like a bush fire or left nasty black deposits when used in my circumstances.

I know I have the tune right as the Castro mineral oil is virtually smokeless at 40:1 when tuning in the garage.

Amsoil Saber smells good looks like kool-aid at 40.1 and 50.1 first batch I did was 40.1 and now I'm going 50.1 cause it seemed to take a bit for my saws to clean out.

If they seem to need to be revved to clean out the tune is too rich on the L more than likely. I can run 16:1 with some oils and they rev crisp and don't load up.

Yeah but this is also a lot of start cut shut down operations it's not a fire wood thing. I can run my saw non stop and it's fine once it reaches a certain temp, but you don't want to hang there in a tree and keep piss revin the saw for a bit before you make a cut. wanna fire er up and drop some limbs. I didn't have that issue with echo or stihl oil at 40.1 but that amsoil Saber 100.1 mix at 40.1 takes a bit to clear up. so I'm going to 50.1 and se how that works don't get me wrong if I was only a groundsman I'd run 40.1 32.1 but a 30cc saw takes a bit to spit it out. and I noticed that the oh34 av super did fine working hard in some locust but it's still took a cut after pis revin I might find a cooler plug for my 30cc saw to help on warm up
