50:1 in these new stratos that use way less fuel is getting way less oil. The 550 didn't like motul 800 at 32:1. It wasn't getting hot enough to burn it. Still had spooge coming out of the muffler outlet. Maxima K2 ran clean in it at 32:1.
A thought to CONSIDER: despite the "leaner" EPA argument, an engine needs a certain amount to run right; too little= lean, too much = rich, and LEANER= HOTTER= too hot risk. Hotter risks changing oil from a lube into a goo, or glue. But blowing unburned gas or oil out an exhaust is not efficient, and is detrimental, usually fouled plug or carbon buildup on piston/ ring w/ cyl/spark screen damage.
-In the 32:1 VS 50:1 discussion, 32:1/ 40:1 is actually leaner (on fuel) than 50:1; stated another way, in one ounce of fuel, 40:1 has 25% more oil than 50:1, (i.e. but only (0.004)= 4/10 of 1% less fuel (0.6 oz oil delta over 128-oz gas). Oil technology is not the same with synthetic as old 2-cycle petro based (w/ special additives) much less older days (1920-1960s?) where they used regular motor oil in a 2-cycle mix. It is the additives in the (petro) oil, and/or the new synthetics that make today's technolgy so much different. Keep in mind also that gas has a cooling effect and also a minor lube effect.

my autotune 545 will run klotz if it is mixed at 50:1 but my other stuff runs it at 40:1 fine.
klotz can be difficult to buy here because of demand i got a quart and one pint of it.
plan to use it this year when i get back to landscaping.

Before I met this whole chainsaw community, that is what I ran in my old homelites @32:1. I burned 3 of those cans and they did fine. I however have not looked at the exhaust ports in a while but it did work fine, they all still run good.

Anybody running 15 to 1? I run Echo CST601s, 6700 & an 8000 to newer Dolmar 510s & a 6400. I run straight no ethanol 87oct gasoline with 1/2 oz per gl of marine Sta-Bil & for several years Amsoil Saber synthetic mixed at 15 to 1; that's 8oz of amsoil & 1/2oz of marine sta-bil per gallon yes they smoke a little but I've NEVER burned up a saw. There are several good tests that have been conducted mostly in years past with non synthetic oil in stages down to 15 to 1 that show 2 stroke engines will run cleaner & cooler the thicker they're mixed down to at least 15 to 1. I've put 50 tanks thru one of the 510s & over 90 tanks thru my other one & have yet to even replace a sparkplug; Engines inside & out are relatively clean with a little residue on the mufflers. My new saw break-in is 1/2oz marine sta-bil & 12oz of Amsoil Saber per gallon, that's 10 to 1; I let the saw completely warm up at low rpm & once warm run it WOT in wood only letting up to get into another cut for the first tank; I rarely have any trouble with a saw & most give me a long life. I've poured those mixtures in glass mason jars & let them sit in the dark part of basement for up to a year & never had any separation. With as lean they set these modern saws for the EPA I hate to chance burning up a saw when they'll still run that good at 15 to 1.

That's a lot of oil. I'm not surprised with your findings though.

On the new Autotune saws though, they can't tune themselves with that much oil. It puts them outside their calibration parameters.

If I end up with one of those I guess I'll have to start experimenting, thanks.
