I bet I'm one of the few in here that knows what all the acronyms are...lol! I'm an AGR in the NY/ANG, cross trained to 1C571, Homeland Defense.
Former F-22 and F-15 Crew Chief.
I got to tour the raptor at Langley on one of my several TDYs there. I was a 2A571 and am now a 1N271. I had a goo friend in the ANG unit out of Syracuse who was an airborne nurse and is now a Capt in the OKANG. I visited her once in NY and went upstate to her family's lake cabin on Sacandaga lake. I was amazed how beautiful upstate NY is... I could live there if not for the onerous laws, rules and regs. It was amazing especially the mountain lakes. It was a lot like the Rockies.

Nice to meet you Brother!

Work with pops, we make round things round and flat things flatter. On things that are too costly to transport. Mostly forging presses. That chunk there is just under 500k lbs.

Line boring a pair of 32" bores

Also dabble with a little bit of welding, that puddle is 17" thick by 42" wide and 60" front to back. Over 10k lbs of wire.

Yup NY has some awful politics for guys like me. I would've never came back except all of my family and my wife's family are here. I was stationed at Langley for 9.5 years. Man is it busy down there. Great to meet you as well.

Top, Cutting the base of a forging press, that way when it is stood up it will have 100% contact.the mill in the pic is 110"
long.

Middle, one side of a pair fo crank bores. Just a standard line bore job, a pair of bores 32" diameter with 18"between them. Bar goes through both bores to bring them back to spec.

Bottom, was a wedge pocket in a press bed. The customer wanted the pocket welded solid to make it a flat bed press, instead of a sliding wedge. The pocket was 32"×60" and from 4"-17" thick, but we had some cracks and holes to fill too. The frame had to stay 400* the whole time we were welding.

From factory it came like this, (wedge pocket) a sTeel wedge fits in that pocket to make the bed parallel to the ram. The design is to slide the wedge up/down to adjust the shut height for different dies. But as the press runs the wedges gets beat down and no longer slides. This press hits with 2500 tons every stroke, up to 24 per min.

This is what it looks like under all that weld, after we got done cutting all the cracks out of the casting. The weld is 1" taller than the shelves you can see at the edge of the pic. The customer wanted the bed flat to get rid of the wedge design. This particular frame was cast in the early 40's haven't been any new ones maDE since the mid 70's can't even get a new one cast in the states anymore. That frame is just shy of 200k in a single pour.

That is an XL leather glove for scale.
