we dont have the side plows here would be better but this state sucks when comes to snow clearing

Say what??? How the heck do ya plow the road proper with no wing???

Some departments, (Mainly NY DOT) have trucks with double wings, which is a wing on the passenger side as well as the driver side. These are mainly used on divided highways plowing the left lane...

NY DOT has started using tow-plows this year as well on the interstates and divided highway... Weird!

Ths "state" roads in VA and West VA are like Town Roads in NY . One reason our taxes are so much higher . And most of the plowing is done by sub-contractors down there .

Very cool- my great uncle (that we called grandpa) was 35 years USMC Combat Engineering and saw front line action in every 'big' U.S.-involved conflict of the 20th century except for WWI.

arborist 43 years now

We need a Tom Trees work pictures thread here.

Currently a USAF/ANG AGR and was formerly a B-1B and KC-135R Crew Chief. Otherwise I'm a wood hack/farmer/rancher on the side.

I bet I'm one of the few in here that knows what all the acronyms are...lol! I'm an AGR in the NY/ANG, cross trained to 1C571, Homeland Defense.
Former F-22 and F-15 Crew Chief.

Yep, NYDOT workers have a bit cushier package than I do with my town... But I love doing what I do, most often it keeps my mind just as busy as as the rest of me.. I do my share of wrenching too... But I gotta say, replacing a blown hydraulic hose on a plow truck that just came in from doing the run all dripping with slush, sand and general crap does kinda suck... Just did that job on my plow truck friday, blew a hose as I was dumping off my leftover sand at the sand pile... Better than losing it while doing my run though...

On a side note yet saw related, my boss gave me the OK to go through and overhaul a 2001 346XP/OE that belongs to the garage last week. I have it all torn down, cleaned, prepped, and ready for reassembly. My order of parts came in last week, but we got 3 days of snow and had to keep the plows going, so I didn't get a chance to go pick up my parts and start putting it back together... Hopefully tomorrow I can get started. :)

There is a '98 394XP there too that I suspect needs an overhaul.. I think the boss has plans for that too... But I hope he decides to auction it off as I want to buy it myself!

I am a highway contractor involved in diamond grinding pavements. This process planes the pavement smooth again taking away the thump, thump, thump your all familiar with as you drive down the road. This is done to older pavements that are deemed structurally sound yet. Bad sections are repaired or replaced. Diamond grinding takes place and then the pavement joints are resealed. You are left with a pavement that is now smooth as when it was new and it cost a fraction of what it would cost to do a complete removal and repaving. Pictures are of our machine that does the work and what pavement looks like during the grinding process. 090.JPG grinding surface pictures 1.jpg
