Interesting on the 87 being better than 88-94???

I know the 100ll didn't run well for me

It will run just not as good as it could be. I don't even like 90 octane out here. I like the 87 best. I actually dumped the 90 I bought into the wife's vehicle yesterday. I'll be going by a high volume E free station tomorrow and get 5-6 gallons or so then.
Do you think this is because the lower octanes burn hotter than than the higher ? More heat producing more power ?

With the higher octane fuels you can run a bit more timing advance because the higher octane usually has a slightly slower combustion as I understand it. With the oxygenated fuels, I'd think you'd have to re-tune to avoid running too lean. With M-tronic or Auto-tune, that goes out the window I suppose.

Octane by definition is "a gasoline product's ability to resist detonation" the higher the octane fuel you use the more timing you can add, and compression, and boost (in the automotive world). A while back there was a huge push to run E-85 for high boost engines, alcohol is super forgiving.
